I was talking with one of the photographers for a local paper at last nights football game and he was telling me he is getting fed up with Nikon repair.

According to him, he and several other shooters he knows have had problems where they send in a camera and it comes back with a problem unrelated to the repair and they have to send it back in again.

He was saying the autofocus on his D3S was not as fast as before the repair and planned to send it back in once football season was over.

It just happened so I'm sending it back via authorized service center in New York. I think they send it to Melville.

I'm not as concerned with the cost of repair as much as the loss of a camera body for weeks and sometimes months(due to "parts hold") followed by another return because of improper repair. I've never had this issue before and they just so happened to pop up after a Nikon repair job that was almost $500.

I'm picking up my other body(it was out for 3 weeks) and I'm hoping the AF issue is fixed. My friend just bought a D4 and
he's already having focus issues and buying a focusing chart to test and calibrate. Sad.

I think you should be asking them that, and insisting on a free and fast repair and complete test before returning them to you.

Which Repair Centre are you dealing with?

Hello

Nikon repair service has now messed up the autofocus on both my D700 and D3 cameras after sending in the cameras for repair.

I sent in a backup D700 4 months ago because the rear panel near the screen required replacing. It came back a month or so later with back replaced but the white balance settings were all skewed to green(about +10-20 in Lightroom) so I sent it back. I would take pictures in all settings and images would appear way too green.

They fixed the issue but then I noticed the autofocus would not lock on. It would hover between slightly front focusing and then slightly back focusing. And do this all the time.

I tested the camera with 5 lenses(14-24, 28-70, 70-200, 300, and the problem persisted.

I just back my D3 from repair and a week later the same thing that happened on the D700 is happening. I have a D7000 and another D3 and they have no problems. The only problems happened after Nikon touched the cameras.

And charged $480.

What could Nikon be doing and why is this happening?

Thanks.

NikoDoby on "canon copying Nikon USA and moving to Melville NY"

canon's US headquarters will be moving from Lake Success, NY to Melville NY. I guess Melville is now officially the camera capital of the US. New York will spend $8million tax dollars to widen the road in the area so I'm sure Nikon's happy to have canon across the street now.

I guess Lake Success wasn't as successful as canon had hoped ;^)
