Exactly! He loses the hassle of having to learn how to use a new camera or replace any of his existing gear so really I would be doing a great service. :D

There was a well publicised fraud over here a couple of years ago where someone phoned up a camera store and said they were from the BBC and needed SEVERAL D3x's AND D3s's for an urgent job. If my memory serves me correctly they faxed through a bogus purchase order on made up letterhead, and sent a guy with a BBC business card to collect them on account. He got away with something like 10 cameras. The fraud only came to light when the store chased payment! A security check disguised as a courtesy call seems highly likely.

It could be fraud prevention. Especially if your shipping address was in any way different than your billing address. Even if its spelled slightly differently. Or just a courtesy call like people suggested.

When I have Pre-ordered high $ items from B&H and others I have received a call as well. Especially if it is shipped to a residential address.

Anybody else get a call from J&R the day after pre-ordering the d4?

I've never had this happen and just found it odd... It was not my first purchase from them, but it's my first pre-order.

My guess is just due to the nature of the beast they are making sure the orders are legit?

then again... i dont know, it just seems rather odd to me.

Good question. Regardless, I got mine two weeks ago. Over 1000 frames and i can say that i love this lens. Ultra sharp and a great focal length for me on FX. For others, the 24mm may be better. This could be my favorite lens and i have a few good ones (holy trinity of zooms and the 85mm f/1.4 AFD). For those who own the 85mm, i haven't been this excited to shoot since i got that lens. The 14-24 is just behind those two for my style of shooting.

Arrived today from J&R (no signature required!) and shot about 30 frames with D3s at f/1.4 indoors and f/8 outdoors. Very fast focus, extremely sharp. I also added a 67-77 step-up ring and 77mm filter and larger lens cap which is great except that now the hood will not fit, but that is ok. It is very similar in size to the new 85mm f/1.4. No CA even wide open.

Got mine today. Haven't shot a single frame yet but I'm already in love. :)

I awoke New Year's day to find a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens available on J&R and quickly ordered it. I had been waiting for over 5 months for this on Amazon, so someone else will get my place in line. Does anyone have this lens and can you tell us if you like it?
