I have BlueSLR (Bluetooth device) and the Zesty cable for iPhone. I like the BlueSLR for the wireless capabilities when I am moving around allot. I use the Zesty cable when I am stationary as it uses less battery from phone and camera.

Both work equally well and I have had no issues with the devices, apps or camera getting the data from them.

D800 & D3s cameras and iPhone 4S iOS6. Both apps work fine with the new iPhone OS.

Interesting stuff. I take images for our walking directions website. We record a GPS track on the way round and I can import this into Lightroom 4. I can then manually place the images on the track. I would rather be able to record the GPS data directly to the photo as it would make it much easier. I am surprised that you can't connect the iphone to the camera (I have a NIkon D7000). Anyone heard of a way to do this.

i know you could take an iPhone picture and just copy the data but seems a bit long winded in the digital age. Love the D7000 as I have just updated from a D60.

there is an on camera GPS logger on Amazon.co.uk now for less than £40 so I might just buy that and forget the iphone option.

Our iPhoone app records a great track that so that bit is not the problem (app is called ifootpath if you are interested)

There's an iPhone app called MotionX-GPS. I think it's free.

Set the app running when you leave home and it records your route (position recording interval automatically adjusts to suit your speed).
When you get home, stop the app and email the track file to yourself.
Import the track into Apple Aperture (presumably Lightroom is similar) and a single click tags all your photos from that trip with their GPS coordinates.

Brilliant. I especially like it because I take my phone with me everywhere.

The only possible problem is that GPS drains the phone battery a bit quicker - the battery might not last a full-day photoshoot.

Great news. Nikon Manual Viewer app DOES work with iPhone 5 and iOS 6. Found the workaround by trial and error.

You need to delete ALL the PDF books on the Nikon Manual Viewer bookshelf first, then download them again. You MUST NOT leave the download screen what so ever while downloading each individual eBook. You will know the eBook is ready for use when it's cover shows back on the bookshelf. Look under More tab for D4 Setting Guide, D800/D800E Technical Guide, P6000-P7100 Manuals. Looks like English is the only language available. Best part it's FREE !

Example times: SB-700 PDF eBook takes seconds on my homes WiFi, D700 takes under 2 minutes to download. You know they are ready for use when it's cover shows back on the bookshelf. BTW the iPhone 5 is a speed demon with PDF books !

P.S. If at any time the Nikon Manual Viewer app locks up, turn off smartphone to clear up hangup.

Yup, this app has been around for a while. It is nice to have, the manuals for everything is always in your pocket.

Wow. Didn't know they had this. I have PDF version of the manuals on my phone, but this app is more convenient.

Yup, have all the manuals right there, and I need them....especially for the D4 if I get in trouble...at least initially. Great to have in hand.

This combination works. Free app, factory Nikon manuals and guides in a bookshelf style app is very handy. Has older DSLR to the D40 model and SB flash also. Contents works just like normal PDF's. Can view landscape or portrait. Gave it a 5 rating. Downloads of individual manuals worked at home, they did not load with WiFi at workplace for some reason.

This is looking great, an all in one device is very welcome when only one plug is available...

It also has a free corresponding iphone/ipad app on the AppStore called blueSLR.

For now I'm going with the geo-tagging approach as shown in that youtube vid (thanks btw!). As I have a Garmin 62S as well as my iPhone/iPad. But eventually I reckon I'll go with the blueSLR solution or Foolography if they get an app on the AppStore.

I've been interested in geotagging for a while now but haven't found a way to use the GPS in my Nokia phone.

As gelu88 suggests, check out Foolography but it is a costly solution.

There's also Gisteq phototrackr plus, and di-GPS, which are somewhat less pricey.

its an alternative to the GP-1 which is compromised of a tiny module that fits on the camera and connects to a bluetooth device.

This can either be a GPS logger or phone.

There are plenty of android phones that do this but i havn't used any iphone apps.

It sounds like a hardwired GPS unit to the camera is the only solution that will meet your needs and it will be the cheapest and simplest solution at the end of the day.

exactly, and that is not what I am looking for.
But thanks to everyone for the advices so far. I am actually more interested in solutions that work on the go. That is somehow connecting the iphone and Nikon via bluetooth or wifi over usb and then to use a tool similar to "DSLR Camera Remote Professional Edition" (maybe the best iphone app for Nikon users). If anyone has found a solution for this please post it here.
I am also concerned about the use of the GPS only because if you have to use online data with your iphone you're ultimately bankrupt as soon as you cross boarders.

The great thing about this method is that it works with any image from any camera.

Just make sure the clocks are synced and it will work just fine.

The disadvantage is that it requires an extra step in post, wheras "in camera" solutions don't.

If you are using Aperture 3, you can import a geotagged photo from your iPhone and add that data to the rest of a project shot with a non-GPS camera, using the "Places" feature.

Is there anyone who might know accidentally if there is any possibility to use the iphone's internal GPS to tag pictures taken with a Nikon?
That is, do you guys know of any app that allows to remotely shoot pictures and meanwhile geotagging the picture?
That's exactly what I need.
Any suggestions are welcomed.
