I use a JuicedLink RM333 to ride audio levels when shooting video but when I have a external monitor attached to the D800 HDMI the audio level meters disappear from the camera's LCD screen when I hit Record. I have sent issue to Nikon Canada but only reply is that they are looking into it. With no hdmi monitor connected audio level display remains on screen during recording.

Hey all,
Thought you might be interested in checking out me and my wife's video we put together for a cooking contest (Kraft Real Women of Philadelphia).
It's a fairly ridiculous video that might make you scratch your head, but if you knew us you'd realize it's mostly a joke (although the potatoes were actually pretty decent).
I was trying to get more comfortable with Premiere Pro and After Effects (the title is from scratch) and expand my video experience.
Used were:
-D90 as main with 35mm 1.8G
-Go Pro HD Hero mounted on a boom stand above (720p at 60fps)
-Blue Yeti USB mic into Apple iMac and Adobe Soundbooth for the dialogue
-big 5'x7' softbox with Lightrein LR4 modelling light at full power at camera left
-sound effects from freesfx dot co dot uk

I tried to make it as "cooking show like" as I could, but obviously we got carried away and inserted a few random bits in there.
Anyways, any feedback is appreciated, for better or worse.
*Oh yeah, I finalized it with Premiere Pro using the "Youtube Widescreen HD" setting, but am not really happy with how much it softened it up and killed the quality, any suggestions on a better export setting?

I have used my 85 f1.4 AI-S for many years, the one thing that need to do for my D300s is to add a split image screen. I have used 300mm 2.8 AI-S, 400mm f3.5, 600 f5.6 and the 800mm f8 with my D70, D100 and D300s with great results. A split image screen would really assist in the fine manual focus

davidtoc on "What do you think Ansel Adams would have done if he had a digital camera???"

I think he would have used the best tools available to him to make the best pictures he could. My guess is he could continue to get better photos with film, especially at the sizes he worked with. A digital camera would have probably served him better as an evaluative tool to help him get better photos with film.

But more than a digital camera, I think he would have gone crazy with photoshop. Adams loved the darkroom, and Photoshop would have let him do things he could have only dreamed of otherwise. He'd have scanned his negatives and loaded them onto the computer.

People often put down digital cameras and image editing software as somehow "cheating," but photographers have always used the best technology available to them. Why would they want to limit their options? If the goal is to get the best image possible, then you're going to use all of the tools at your disposal. How old does a technology have to be before it's no longer considered cheating? Is auto-focus "cheating"? Is it "cheating" to let the camera calculate the metering for you?

Just as a modern carpenter is going to use electric tools--why use a hand saw, hammer, and screw driver when there are power saws, nail guns, and electric screw drivers which get the job done faster and more accurately? Do you think that builders who lived before electricity would have eschewed such tools because they were "cheating" or somehow less "pure"?

Of course, for some people, getting the best image possible isn't always the entire goal. There are people who intentionally limit themselves for the sake of the exercise, or because they like a particular effect, etc. So they only use the old-fashioned dark room. Or they shoot with a Holga or Diane. Like a builder who intentionally wants to build a house the way the early settlers did and avoids modern methods and materials.

But I don't think Adams was one of those people.
