there's a d800 thread already, please post over there. if You don't like having tripod with You, change for P&S camera or iPhone and get good result. what a need for dslr if You ain't gonna use the potential it's like buying a ferrari and lamenting that the roads are not good enough. want exceptionally results - sacrifice. simple like this. once again DSLR's are not for every one. they are not created to be easy operable, they are created to deliver the results to those who know how to shoot and, once again, are willing to sacrifice.

Every promo Nikon has done with some photographer and all the videos Nikon show with interviews of photographers have the D800 on a tripod (Always in the back ground of the interview shots) or setup as a movie rig. This is worrying me that the camera is indeed going to have crappy hand held results. I flipping hate using tripods if I don't absolutely need to. I enjoy HOLDING my camera and INTERACTING with it without having to lug a tripod under it. I enjoy getting down into tight positions, moving around, using nearby objects, etc for support. You know actually interacting with the camera. I do enjoy my tripod for night shots & time lapse, but I want to be able to just walk around the city as well and take shots. What if I wanted to do candid city shots of people? Do I need a tripod? lol.

So does Nikon know it is hard to get good shots while handheld, hence all the "D800 married to a tripod" subliminal messaging? I just want to be able to carry the camera around and be able to take pictures like I did with my D3 and D700.

Also, I should know this, but if I use the FX format, but instead of large, use medium for the 20.3 MP option it is still FX right? Its not like going to the DX option? I have ALWAYS used FX and fine option lol never went below that on previous cameras. To add to that, by using medium it doesn't do anything to the image quality output right? It doesn't compress it more? Man I really should know this, but like I said I never went below the Fine option on my D3 or D700, and I have neither in my possession anymore :(
