It's a real shame I have done a little research and it looks like BlueSLR has gone out of business. The website is not available or the support page through iTunes.

looks like there is a business opportunity there!

I have BlueSLR (Bluetooth device) and the Zesty cable for iPhone. I like the BlueSLR for the wireless capabilities when I am moving around allot. I use the Zesty cable when I am stationary as it uses less battery from phone and camera.

Both work equally well and I have had no issues with the devices, apps or camera getting the data from them.

D800 & D3s cameras and iPhone 4S iOS6. Both apps work fine with the new iPhone OS.

HTH

Later,

Interesting stuff. I take images for our walking directions website. We record a GPS track on the way round and I can import this into Lightroom 4. I can then manually place the images on the track. I would rather be able to record the GPS data directly to the photo as it would make it much easier. I am surprised that you can't connect the iphone to the camera (I have a NIkon D7000). Anyone heard of a way to do this.

i know you could take an iPhone picture and just copy the data but seems a bit long winded in the digital age. Love the D7000 as I have just updated from a D60.

there is an on camera GPS logger on Amazon.co.uk now for less than £40 so I might just buy that and forget the iphone option.

Our iPhoone app records a great track that so that bit is not the problem (app is called ifootpath if you are interested)

Would welcome any thoughts

There's an iPhone app called MotionX-GPS. I think it's free.

Set the app running when you leave home and it records your route (position recording interval automatically adjusts to suit your speed).
When you get home, stop the app and email the track file to yourself.
Import the track into Apple Aperture (presumably Lightroom is similar) and a single click tags all your photos from that trip with their GPS coordinates.

Brilliant. I especially like it because I take my phone with me everywhere.

The only possible problem is that GPS drains the phone battery a bit quicker - the battery might not last a full-day photoshoot.

Hi,
I've got recently the new Solmeta Geotagger pro 2, which is a very good GPS for Nikon. I'm using it on a D800.
This device "is/will be" delivered with a wireless remote.

I choose this, because I really don't like to plug/unplug the devices on the D800, with its round plug (quite difficult to do, and only one plug for GPS/remote). So, I basically let the geotagger cable always plugged in place, and the geotagger + it's remote is convenient.

But, Solmeta is not delivering yet the remote... they say they'll do in few weeks. Is anyone using this device, and what about the remote ? did you got it?

Or Did you found a compatible wireless radio remote ?
I don't bother to buy a compatible wireless radio remote. I had Aputure WR1N, but seems not compatible, so I sold it.
I don't want to bother with incompatible things which must be plug separatly, ...

Solmeta is little slow for answering...

I was going to update this posting when I received notice of the above message...

I sent my camera back to Nikon as it was under warranty. The repair slip indicated that they replaced the power switch, calibrated autofocus, and cleaned the CCD.

I haven't had a chance to check out the camera... but I assume they found a problem with the switch since they replaced it.

Thanks for the suggestion about memory cards. I'll definitely keep it in mind should the problem repeat.

Try taking out your memory cards make sure they are clean and reinsert them one at a time. This happened to me a while back and it was a memory card reading problem the D7000 lock on trying to read the card but will not shut down. Just take them out and put them back in one at a time. Good Luck

it's not - go to Nikon Service, if Your camera is under warranty they gonna fix it for free

Absolutely, this can really begin to create problems with changing out memory cards, lenses, etc. Having electrical current across the contacts is an unpredictable scenario when doing these functions. It can set up static charges, surge currents, improper voltages across contacts, a variety of potential problems. So, get it checked out as Adam has suggested.

Okay, I know the on/off switch on this camera isn't supposed to do much... However, mine appears to do NOTHING. There is absolutely NO difference between 'off' and 'on' positions. I can take pictures, change settings, do ANYTHING with the camera 'off'!!

Is this normal, or do I have a problem? I first noticed it back in December when the camera was new, but haven't had the time to really play with it and prove that there was no difference until yesterday.

Also, the GPS unit is appears to be always on whenever plugged in, despite GPS Auto-Meter Off being enabled.

A battery charge with the GPS plugged in lasts a little longer than a day with lite no-flash shooting, and about a week with no GPS or shooting whatsoever.

The momentary contact position all the way to the right lights up the LCDs -- which appears to be doing what it is supposed to. But... on/off ???

Any idea what gives?

Firmware:
A 1.02
B 1.03
L 1.002

I can't believe that this is proper behavior!

Ha backwards - I would need a 800mm lens to see how far back Aperture is ;) (Actually it is a good program.)

I'm with checking the GPS on or making sure you are not dropping any "selective" info on import.

GPS coordinates are stored in the EXIF data, which is a standard. There is no way that only View NX2 could read this.

Does this problem apply to all the images? Images taken indoors will normally have no GPS coordinates.

I suggest you:

A) Load image to Flickr, which should read the GPS data.
B) Check EXIF data using exiftool. If you're not comfortable with command-line stuff on the Mac, upload the image somewhere I can download it and I'll check it for you.

Yesish. While I've used the D3s and D700 alot I don't own them so I've actually never tried their raw processor. The D7000 has a robust raw processor but it converts the processed files to jpeg so I'm not sure of the full answer... I'm sure somebody knows around here though
