bmxdad - indeed a900 looks little bit weired but as I've played with it it's very ergonomical and very intuitive - probably the best possibility/price factor on the market

"On another note, if Nikon can make miracles with Sony's sensors, how come Sony isn't doing as well as Canon and Nikon?"

Simple, optics. The sensors are important but so are the optics and the things that go into making them. Nikon is smart, Sony is perhaps the best electronics company, so buy their sensors. Nikon is an optical company as we all know. Put the best electronics with the best optics, what do you have? A great product.

Actually the Rep from Fuji was in our store Yesterday and we had talk about this idea. And he had sample pictures from different P&S in comparison to the new 200EXR. This new camera is actually very good, sharp and the colors are just great. This reflects on what Dpreview found in their compact P&S comparison that they did a few months ago.

To other on this post. It is not that there is anything wrong with the sensor from Sony, just that I think a future partnership with Fuji would be better. Nikon would be more involved with sensor design, they would market something that is different from the rest of the pack. Last thing Nikon would not be waiting to see what Sony decides to do next and what if Sony suddenly decided that it was no longer in their interest to supply SLR sensors to Nikon.

Maybe Sony could become big, but so far their low end SLR's look cheap and plastic and the new one with SD card more so. Their A900 is a great value, looks a bit funny and makes we wonder if they sell it at a loss (like their PS3) to gain market share

after having seen Fuji's 200EXR results I can only say: YES PLEASE! It would make a lot of sense anyway. Actual Sony sensors a using Bayer interpolation, meaning that real number of pixels is much less than "effective pixels". Using EXR technology would be big jump forward in technology. If you have a look at most recent Hassi's, you can see, that they are offering multi-exposure facility (for the same reason as Fuji 200EXR). Could be a nice deal to cooperate between Fuji and Nikon in sensor/software development, and it would make us believe, that a Fuji S6 would have been lightyears ahead of anything Nikon built up to date. Big deal, and urgently wished!!

"To be honest, is there anything wrong with the Sony made sensors?" DR not as high as the Fuji sensor?

The physical sensor is is only one part out of some 7-10 other parts the result in the image.

@ adamz : Yeah, Sony is throwing a lot of R&D dollars at it... not sure how long they can keep it up...
If they can keep it up for 5 more years or so then yes, Sony will be #1 .. other wise they may just pull the plug and sit at #3

NSX - give sony a little bit more time and they will sooner or later become either number 1 or 2, as their cameras are really nice, and moreover carry an affordable price tag - compare price of d3x to a900.

To be honest, is there anything wrong with the Sony made sensors?

I mean Nikon still tunes them to their liking, but Sony still needs to make them, right?

The full frame sensors work wonderfully, and I'm happy with the way my D40 performs even if it is DX. If I remember right, it was the last 6 megapixel evolution of the Sony sensor.

But then again, who would want to turn down more performance?

On another note, if Nikon can make miracles with Sony's sensors, how come Sony isn't doing as well as Canon and Nikon?

Most people believe the SLR sensors in general are made by Sony. I would love to see a Fuji Sensor lets call it Nikon 3EXR and it could be anything from 24 to 40 Max MP with the EXR mode of then 12 to 20 MP. Remember that we are talking future camera models with higher MP sensors becoming reality.

Last it should be a square sensor (as in my other post) with properly at this future time a functional electronic viewfinder

I think Fuji is moving away from small/large pixels.. but it would be nice to have a 24mp fuji sensor in the D700 body! which would produce true 12MP High DR. 24MP high Res or 12MP High ISO. 6MP HISO+

On a d300 body a 18MP version would be nice ... ie 9HDR,18HR,9HISO,4.5HISO+

However I dont think Nikon should source their sensor from Fuji instead of Sony... actually we dont really know where the new Nikon sensors come from...

Hi There

I have also posted this in Dpreview before and told to purchase a S5 before they are all gone, that was not my point and that camera had some issues and would not be a great choice for sports

A future Partnership with Fuji would give Nikon following advantages:

No more waiting in line for Sony to use the new sensor on their new camera first, and will Nikon actually get that new sensor

Nikon could properly be more involved with Fuji in the development stage

The Super CDD sensor simply makes better colors and it might be better at higher ISO, their new F200EXR compact camera does better at higher ISO compared to other compact camera

I that partnership were to happen, Nikon could also sell a few P&S camera with a Fuji sensor

Anyway what do you think, would you like to see future DX and FX SLR's made with a sensor from FUJI

Pete
