That's fun, Willis. I'd love to see pictures when you're back. Congrats on the D800 as well.

I'd think that rocker is backward, too. Up for more light through the lens seems more intuitive to me.

I just got one for me for my trip to Mexico... wanted something a little less conspicuous than a giant DSLR.

I haven't done any serious shooting yet, but my initial experience is "Wow!, Its crazy fast."

I'll post some photos when I get back.

The one thing that few of the reviews touch on, but bears mentioning is what a joy this camera is to shoot. In manual mode, you have full control of aperture & shutter speed with the rocker & fly wheel (I love the rocker switch, but it seems backwards that you press down to increase the aperture... I guess most people think of lowering the F-Stop number, but I'll bet the design team had a debate about it). Would I like an exposure knob? Yes. Of course I would. Would I like an ISO button? You betcha, but the camera menu is surprisingly intuitive to operate, so I just leave it in the ISO menu and I'm good. It switches super fast, and because it comes up in the view finder, I don't even have to take my eye away from the camera.

Performance is pretty 'meh' in low light, but so are my kit lenses on any SLR. I look forward to slapping a faster lens on the adapter and seeing what happens. I've got a D800 on order, so I figure that will replace the D90 as our go-to for low light shooting. I'm also super jazzed about having a compact that can bounce flash.

For me, this camera replaces my D40 as my walk around camera, and based on my initial experience, it beats it in resolution, ergonomics, low light performance, autofocus performance, viewfinder coverage, and it shares a battery w/ the D90, which is a bigger deal to me than it sounds like. I'll let you folks know how it performs in the field.

Hi PaulR,

What is the out of focus area at the top of the tree trunks right of picture on your Flickr 'Marsden Yorkshire' bridge photo? Looks like flare in the centre too?

Hello PaulR,

Do you have a Flickr account or some other site where I could see some of your photos shot with this camera compared to those shot with your D3X? I'm not a pro photog but thought that if someday I upgraded my D7000 to full frame that I'd possibly get one of these or micro 4/3s as a compact unit. In the meantime I suppose I could search Flickr for V1 or J1. Thanks.

Well I have just got a Nikon V1 with 10mm Lens and a FT1 Adapter for my other Nikon Lenses.

Well Guys what an upgrade from my D3X!! Yes D3X

Forget all the Negative talk, this camera is fantastic Anybody want a D3X for sale?

It took Nikon 4 years to develop this camera and boy it flows with new technology

Ok, Different Horses for different courses, but you have to be impressed with this camera
