I had dust on my Nikon D600 after less than 1000 shots and before I ever even changed the lens. Something is up with Nikon and dust. Either a shutter design or something else. I even had 2 hot pixels and ended up returning. I'll probably end up re-buying but i'm worried about these issues. Even the reviews are pointing them out:

i tried the '' clean sensor of the menu'' and i had more black spots ! i contacted nikon and they confirmed that the sensor needs to be cleaned, so i took the camera today to the service centre kingston ,london .the service was just great and they have done it while i was waiting .
the whole process done within 4o min.

Shoot an exposure of a plain white sheet of paper, camera focus at infinity, paper at about two feet. In post processing, increase contrast to full and then post image. This should show the problem more clearly than a 10 second exposure.

Now that we are in the correct thread...just a little note. Unless I am in an extremely dirty venue, I do not clean lenses. Some have never been cleaned in several years except to possibly blow dust off. And the rear element is never touched unless some unfortunate event occurs and a piece of dirt or smudge gets on the glass.

The pro Nikon bodies do seem to have a tendency to accumulate oil spots. After about 10,000 clicks I cleaned my D4 sensor which had over 70 oil spots, by count, and I have not had another in the past 7,000 clicks.

And, Sary, welcome to NRF. Maybe you could post a photo showing the spot..... or what a while and see if more accumulate.

Hi, I' T140AV Rider. The Handle is named after a Triumph Motorcycle. I have the only one of its kind ever made.
I've been using Nikons since 1978 when I bought an FT3. My current gear is as follows
D800,D700 and D2X
70-200 F2.8 VR1
200-400 F4 VR1
24-120 VR
135 Macro
200 Macro
28-300
Sigma 15mm Fisheye
Plus an assorted collection of Bellows and extension tubes.
I'm mainly a wildlife and lansdcape snapper but I do anything really. My Charity calendar this year includes a Coal Fired Chip Shop!

I had the same problem when new. Cleaned the sensor after about 1800 shots and it's been fine from then on. I have to blow off a dust spot every now and then but the self clean normally does the job.

Nikon should clean it under warranty. I just did it myself.

I cant say I noticed any, though admit I have not looked for them.

What's a good method ? Shoot a white sheet and overexpose so nothing is there, then look for spots ?

Hi everyone.

I found problem of oil spots or dust issue at my D800 make Oct. 2012, only 1100 cut.

I took the dust or oil spots photos at my camera and adjust more clearly show it. used lightroom.

this is detail 100% crop

I will check in NIKON as center in Korea tomorrow. If i have something more news from AS center, i`ll more report.

However, nobody expriance about this ?

@ waterpork, Yatz, skeudenn, Fizzy69... Welcome to NRF. Please feel free to post in the various threads and also on PAD. Just put up what you shoot and it might even get a comment. Hopefully there is an educational benefit to some of the threads and PAD can be helpful sometimes.

I've been lurking on the site for a couple of years now, a member for a few months and today is my first post :-).

I've looked at PAD almost every morning for a couple of years now and the quality of posts continues to amaze me and give me ideas.

I'm from Ireland and been interested in photography since I was a teenager (a long time ago) when I got my first Practica SLR. I moved to Nikon a couple of years ago and now have D300s, D800, 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4 and 105mm 2.5.

Mostly interested in Landscapes, Buildings and some photos of the kids (when they allow me)

Still not worked up the courage to post - although I will shortly.

I' m a video dabbler too.
when my a77 broke down I wanted the new a99 but it couldn't be had in france for love or money. Then I remembered that before I had loved the d300 and came back to Nikon and a d800. Although I miss some of the the reach of dx ( and the 500 af mirror minolta )I am getting my bearings.The 1.2 and 1.5 dx crop modes are handy.
Video is good enough butI relly miss the a77s articulated screen for video.
I use a 70-300 usd + sigma 150-500 os. I should get a 300mm f2.8 + tcs today or tomorrow
apart from photography, I am in traditional Celtic music and languages. I organize ceilidhs in the Breton language.I have been studying Ireland's language and landscapes for a few years now...

I've been a lurker for a while and felt that it's high time to join the party. Used to shoot film but my daughter fell in love with photography and now we have something to do together.

I consider myself a landscape/nature shooter and an aspiring "strobist".

I'm shooting DX these days because I like the reach for shooting birds.

Current rig:
D7000 with a couple of DX, FX and a bunch of older film lenses.
For some reason, I tend to favor the close and wide lenses.
