This was an opportunistic shot, I came out of a dark spot shoting mushrooms and this squirrel was ready for the spotlight... without any time, I took three shots but not with the settings I would have prefered...

The D7000 is genuine. The Rolex Yachtmaster is a replica (actually it is the very best replica of this watch money can buy with a genuine Swiss movement - it cost me about $600 and they are no longer available because only a few were made in very limited numbers as a joint venture between a guy in China and a guy in California - look up the price of the real one - you will be astonished - no one can tell the difference until you open up the case and see the movement inside does not have the Rolex stamp on it).

In looking at your beautiful photo...do you need flash? In PP if you pull shadows up and highlights down, then increase contrast, it may accomplish what you want (assuming you have not done that already). But such a nicely captured moment.

My 8 year old is always in her 'own wee world' and the light bouncing out of her new beachball has lit this shot beautifully. Now I need to work out how to get my flash in there :)
@HockeyMan: Given that we have to work with what we have now (the suggestion to get lower may well have helped), you may still be able to improve the image without achieving it by cropping.

I think the tree and rocks on the left is too muddled/dark around the base and canopy so a mixture of your crop with some more 'shadows' lift brushed onto the tree) would make it stand out more and balance the picture differently. The light is OK on the building but not on the tree and a little harsh overall. I think it is improvable though. Maybe hike up the clarity to get more definition on the foliage too. The image is worth working on.

Shame about the P&S and jpeg though make sure you at least use non-destructive editing on it now.

HTH.

I use CS5 now and it's non-destructive editing capabilities. I'll keep trying spraynpray!

@All the great photographers on PAD. The artistry and imaginative ability here truly inspires me. I'm really glad I found this site and joined the forum.
