Here's a video of an interview with an astronaut.

http://vimeo.com/51632896

It's really interesting, especially the Q and A at the end and the considerations and things they keep in mind when they photograph things.

They even modified a D3s for IR photography. Too bad I'm not qualified because I don't speak Russian, or else I'd go up there in a heartbeat!

Check this Nikon web page out. Nikon's have been used by NASA for many years. Some very neat looking models.

I know they have a D3s up there (the video NSX posted used that), and probably a D4 by now. http://www.flickr.com/photos/astro_andre/

They did used to use Hasselblad in the early days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4is8N9qgsio

Guess their policy is to use the best gear available!

On the main blog we have been given an entry into the NASA Flickr Photostream

http://www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2explore/

along with a link to PetaPixels file of spacewalks with Nikons

http://www.petapixel.com/2012/09/07/photographs-of-astronauts-using-dslrs-on-spacewalks/.

Great stuff, and if any comments need to be made, my observation is the body used currently is a D2Xs, 12 MP, DX. Says something to me about just how many pixels do I need..... humbling.

Some very nice memories for those of us who remember some of the early history of NASA. I was sitting in a college mathematics class when the Mercury Freedom 7 went up on May 5, 1961 with Alan Shepard on board.
