Theoretically the plastic assembly should be very similar to other lenses so if you are comfortable with partially dismantling the lens and taking that contact assembly apart and using components from a donor lens then it may be possible to replace that outer plastic piece. The only thing that has to be kept in mind is you have to be very gentle with the ribbon cable that routes through the lens to that contact block. If you break that the repair will most likely get more expensive and more complicated. You may be able to find just the contact block on ebay so a lens doesn't have to be parted out.

I personally have taken apart a few bridges (CPU lens contacts) on a couple of my lens projects and they are tricky beasts to say the least. Each pin has a spring behind it and behind that spring is the ribbon conductors that they springs press into to make a full conduction path. The way it is layered is plastic holder for pins outer portion of the contract bridge pins which poke through the outer portion, then springs (the most tricky part of this whole thing, ribbon cable/circuit, metal or plastic backing to hold it all together.

I hope this is relatively clear if not I am sorry it is hard to describe but some google searching may yield what was describing. If you are not comfortable with working with a lot of small bits and springy small bits that can fly off I'd say pass unless you can get the whole bridge assembly and can get deep enough into the lens. There are probably some lens repair places out there that can help I know of none since I have had pretty good luck with fixing all the lenses that I have in one way or another. Good luck!

I am desperately needing help in finding a replacement "bridge contact" for my 500mm f/4 AF-I. One of the contact pins has come out and it will not AF or meter. I contacted NIKON and of course those parts are no longer available. Does anyone know if any other bridge contacts are interchangable with this or have an idea of a fix??
Right now all it is good for is an expensive boat anchor.
