Hi Abhay,

I also wanted to purchase a license for "CE3 for Capture NX2", but found that retailers -if anything- these days only hold leftovers of the "non-NX2" version.

I contacted (the very helpful!) Nik software customer support who recommended me buying the "non-NX2" version (COMPLETE suite only!); they offered issuing a "CE3 for NX2" product key for me upon receipt of my non-NX2 license and proof of purchase.

So I have just bought a boxed "non-NX2 CE3" from Amazon uk: it is on its way now; so hopefully in a few days I will have my workstation setup and running as I want.

You can contact Nik Software directly and they will sell Color Efex 3 to you - along with providing a license for CE 4.

For those using Capture NX2, the ability to use CE 3 is very useful and nicely integrated. I find the user interface is excellent and the ability to selectively apply CE 3 steps to be very useful.

Officially CE 3 is not supported. You need to be running the latest version of Capture NX2 in 64 bit mode for Windows. If that is the case, the CE 3 with the latest upgrade will install into the 64 bit application. Works like a charm.

There are apparently some major design issues with Capture that prevent using CE 4 with Capture until a complete rework of Capture is finished. My understanding is that is not in the cards for 2012.

Hi,

I need to buy color efex 3 plugin for my capture NX2.

I tried looking at Nik's and Nikon's website for purchasing. I also called the Nik support for the same. I was told that this product is no longer available for sale. They asked me to check their resellers for help. But almost all of the resellers do not carry this product.

Can some one help me with finding a reseller who can sell this software?

I also tried to research any news on Capture NX3. But did not find any information. Do you think waiting for a NX3 version will be of any use? I can wait for one to two months at max.

Thanks

Abhay

I use an Expodisk and have to do a custom WB about every 2 min to get accurate color. Generally I just shoot raw at sun rise/set.

Will the Expodisk work for setting a custom WB for Infrared Photography?
(I usually use a green grass path under the sun to set the custom WB for IR).

In general, I don't usually have many problems with color balancing- I find auto white balance is actually pretty good in most situations. In difficult situations, I usually use raw and balance it myself later. In the most difficult situations, I have to isolate areas and balance them separately using multiple adjustment layers. I try to avoid this if possible.

Another solution, you a small folding lastolite grey card ( throw the big bag it comes with away and use a plastic bag) Then use the WB eyedropper in LR3

I noticed my D5100 changes colors as I shoot at dusk. Starts off great, then goes to some ratty hue. Really annoying.

I think that's because you are in auto mode? If you change to one of the other selections like sunset then you should be ok.

If the white balance is really hard to nail, i find the best thing to do is put the camera in live view and set WB to K, then change the K temp until it closely resembles the scene. i also shoot in 14bit RAW and fiddle in LR3 until happy.

The other day I was shooting a sunset that had a lot of blue in it instead of the customary red. My D7000 was turning the pictures red. When I tried playing around with the white balance I wasn't getting anywhere. The sun was going down. By putting the camera into dusk mode I simply took the picture and read the temperature. From that point on I was able to use manual and the colors came out properly.
Under most circumstances this camera is dead on with colors. I knew it was just a matter of finding the proper setting.
Hopefully this will help others when scrambling for that proper setting.

White, gray, black, take your pick, Admin. While I do like the serifed face used on photo.net's site (it "fits" their site), I think I prefer the sans serif face used currently on NR's forum for this site. Less "literary," more "tech-centric."

However, if you're going for a "news-ey," newsprint motif, the serifed face would better mimic that, but, perhaps with a slightly smaller size, and just a bit tighter leading?

I just read this when this thread got bumped, studio. So are you also into graphic design? You seem to know your fonts. For what it's worth, I don't think the fonts here on the forum should be changed, either.
