Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S FX SWM Nikkor Lens
I'm a wedding photographer who shoots in dark conditions often. This lens performs great in these conditions. I use this lens on a D3 body and the AF is good. It doesn't seem to be as fast at my zooms (24-70 2.8 or 70-200 2.8) but it's still pretty accurate when focusing in low light. The image quality is AMAZING. Certainly an upgrade from the older 35 f/2 version . Images has more contrast & are sharper. I also own the 24 1.4 G and I would say that the IQ on the 35 is about the same. Over all, I'm very impressed and satisfied with this 35

From what I have read from the article on the home page, it sounds like more of an issue with UK laws than it does with Amazon or Nikon. I realize, that regardless of who's to blame, I would be extremely frustrated with the situation as well.

Never mind, I just the read the article on the home page about the problem with Amazon UK. It sounds like a legal, or policy issue. That sucks. Maybe it's time to take a holiday in the US, and bring an empty suitcase! Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the cancel orders, I know I would be extremely upset.

I'm waiting on a, polite :-), email to Amazon UK so we'll see what happens. I'm starting to like the look of the 5D MkII though ;) MkIII just a bit too much but the II would double my current D200 resolution and give me decent video. After waiting so long for Nikon to come up with anything approaching a worthy D200 upgrade this is just gut wrenching I must say. I've tried hard to avoid all the complaining and moaning that's been going on as I was happy to wait in line and understand the problems Nikon must be having after the year they've had, but this just takes the biscuit!

Have you called customer service to see what the case may be with "they won't be able to source this item"? Amazon has very good customer support and it's easy to get a real person on the phone or by email to find out what the case may be, instead of vague email. I realize CS may not be helpful. but it might be worth the effort. I would complain nicely and ask to be put in line where you were when they canceled your order. Good Luck

Yep, I got one of those this morning too.
I read this as meaning that Nikon cannot supply Amazon.
So does this mean that Nikon have discontinued the D800? I doubt that. Perhaps Nikon is refusing to supply Amazon? That would seem odd. Or has Amazon finally figured out a way around all the £2399 and £2099 pre-orders? Hmm...

I wouldn't mind, but I, stupidly, cancelled my other pre-orders thinking I'll sit and wait it out with a large reliable source. I wasn't in a hurry so a couple of months or three would be ok. Now, I need to go to the back of the queue with someone else. No thank you.

Actually, I think Amazon and Nikon may have done me a favour as for the price of the D800 and 105mm VR (which I'm also waiting for and don't seem any nearer getting) I can get a Canon 5D MKII with a 24-70 and an adapter for my existing Nikon lenses to see me through until I replace them. If this is the way that they want to behave toward their loyal customers then I see no point in staying loyal anymore.

Just cancelled my Amazon order right afterward which they had goofed and canceled after being on the list for several months. Hope it comes this week! See my new thread about this (snagged 35mm).

I don't recall the details of the federal statute, but fairly recently a federal law was enacted that requires retailers to cancel orders or get permission from the buyer to extend the ship date if a product cannot be shipped within 30 days of ordering. No co-incidence that the poster's order was cancelled 30 days after the order was placed.

those of us who preordered early enough got an email about a month ago asking if we still wanted the item.... I replied saying that I did still want it. The coincidence is that because i ordered so early on, I get shafted to the end of the line.

I don't understand the point of that email confirming my interest if they just up and cancel my order after my estimated delivery date is passed.

I had the exact same thing happen to me with the 35mm. I ordered on Sept 14th, anxiously awaited November 14th and then got zapped! I called and spoke to Amazon twice, with little effect. I asked just to be kept on the list in priority order, but no go.
Then yesterday, I saw that they listed it again and I reordered it now with a Dec/Jan delivery. I had also ordered two SB700 and the exact same thing happened to those orders.
I think that NR should take some action on our behalf since they seem to work closely with Amazon. Kind of outrageous if you ask me.
