#spraynpray: Thx a lot for the advice, I looked and you are right no traces of moire that I can see...

But the shots are not as close up as I sometimes do, I still wonder what happens if you close enough the se the individual scales.....

I'm glad to hear that moire has not been a big problem with the D800E making photo's. I'm still very curious how the D800E does with video and if moire is more of a problem in video mode.

If moire is a problem in video with D800E, most likely it will be a problem in D800 too. If there's no moire problem in D800's video, I'm guessing that D800E wouldn't have moire too. Moire in video and in stills are two different things. There can be absolutely no moire in stills but nasty moire in videos due to the way the camera samples the video.

Has anyone taken shots of butterfly wings close up? I would dearly like to know if the scaling of this subject is prone to moire like fabric?

Ii have had the camera since April 15th and can't even make any seriously! Its an urban myth really because I have had my Leica M9 over two years now and it wasn't an issue either. I think it has to be under EXTREME/very special conditions. Trust me I have honestly tried...

ericbowles said:
You do need to be aware that due to the high resolution of the D800/D800E, downsizing can create moire in a print. The bicubic sharpening routine in Lightroom produced moire in an image that had no moire as captured. It can be controlled in this rare case by adjusting your resampling preferences.

But that's a Lightroom issue, not a D800E issue.

I've got 4000 frames on my D800E and still have not seen any moire. My subjects have been a large number of bird images, a couple of events, and a Memorial Day Parade. I have a large number of images of people including a series with one subject wearing a silk dress, and never saw any sign of moire.

This is a good idea. I took a friend's D800E in a restaurant and shot all sorts of fine line apparel on folks at our morning camera club, yet could not get any moire whatsoever. A test pattern is what I think might be helpful. Maybe construct this from fabric at a fabric shop and just shoot until one gets the moire...
