Only camera straps with a steal wire in them are from Pacsafe. They specialize in travel gear that is slash proof, etc.

My typing wasn't keeping up with my thoughts - Only camera straps "I have seen".

They work great for some applications and surprisingly they don't bounce around much if you have a heavier set up on it. Then again I never have the need to run and I like to wear my camera cross body. I also like to shoot without a strap (no groups existing) from a hip bag and this is easy to remove the strap quickly and have a strapless camera when I choose.

The steel cable is an interesting thought - other bags etc I have used with slash proof cables tend to dig in if after the shoulder pad get's worn in.

The Sun Sniper is offered with or without the steel cable. I have a D7000 on the standard model (no cable), and I'm very happy with it. I flipped a coin between this and the BR - they both seem good. I am using it in conjunction with a Think Tank Holster; both the Sun Sniper and the Think Tank strap go over my head and shoulder, and depending on whether I'm walking or shooting determines whether the camera goes in the holster of hangs free.

These straps seem quite pointless for me for mainly two reasons.

For one, you lose the tripod plate. Secondly with this two-point strap system (if you use it without the "vest") will leave your heavy camera+lens banging against the small of your back, hip or upper thigh which I personally find very annoying. Maybe I tend to walk too fast but I can't even carry my mobile phone by haning it around my neck. It might be fun for a short while, but leave the camera banging against your back for the better part of the day and you will get a painful back and a nice bruise.

What works best for me is the ordinary strap with the camera resting on my waistbag. The waistbag also helps me in carrying around my tripod as I hand it on my shoulder with the tripod strap and slip one leg through the shoulder strap of the waistbag.

That's just my opinion on this. Maybe these slings are comfortable when you go on short reportages.

I use BlackRapid and although I have an older model, I can say that even after a day of shooting (D300 +grip + 70-200VR) I still have to apply allot of pressure to unhook the tripod connector. The way you use it, it just doesn't have much chance to "spin" off. I have heard of a few people that had it fall off, but considering you are already mindful, you certainly would not have a problem or would tighten it (whether it needs it or not), like it do.

I'm not sure about that Camera Strap Buddy thing on photo jojo. The screw looks quite small. There are baseplate that do the same thing basically.

Search for BlackRapid on this site - we had a large discussion on all of these type of straps not to long ago.

Isn't that how they are all held in? They all just screw into the bottom, but on the strap buddy the metal part rotates. I don't think it would un screw, it's not going to rotate in circles.

The BlackRapid system has a spinner on the clasp to relieve said rotational forces.

And it does not even take a full 360 degree spin to "break" a tripod mount screw loose. Doesn't even take 90 degrees. Which is why the BR product uses a relatively thick pad of rubber as a compression (lock) washer. (As highly regarded as the SunSniper products are I assume they have a similar solution.) Once one has removed the locking tension on those coarse threads, bouncing or any other typical non-rotational force will be enough to unscrew the camera.

This product appears to be a solid plastic knob over the screw, offering no compression outside that which is provided by the (thin) rubber base of the camera itself.

Again, I'm easily disturbed.

Drab said:
Interesting variation. I think that may very well work better with lighter cameras/lenses. I mentioned in an earlier thread that I feel the Black Rapid strap actually performs better if you're using a heavy setup - that it tends to shift more with a lighter setup. I could see how this may not shift so easily.

One thing which disturbs me though, mind you I'm easily disturbed, is I don't like how the bottom strap fitting, which experiences rotational forces during use of the product, is held on with a screw fastener.

I'm thinking of getting this one, it's cheaper, you use your own strap, and I like the way it holds the camera, but it doesn't slide along the strap but I don't think that would be a problem.

I am using a D300 and I have been looking at the Sun Sniper "One" and was wondering if anyone knew if there is a steel wire in this strap. I looked at one in a store today there appears to be something in the center that seems like a narrow wire. Does anyone know?
