Okay, DUH! Now I see that Sony started introducing full-frame D-SLRs way back in 2008. Where have I been? I thought Sony announced they were discontinuing Maxuum-mount, Alpha cameras?

??? The Sony Alpha mount is Minolta's old AF mount. Sony bought Minolta from Konica and just renamed the mount to "Alpha". You can mount old Minolta AF lenses to newer Sony cameras and new Sony lenses to older Minolta cameras.
The mount had actually been know as the Minolta Alpha mount or just A-mount. Sony just renamed it just Alpha and used the alpha symbol as their brand.

I hear the 5D Mark III will be released before the Nikon D700 refresh now. This should be an interesting release for everyone. Canon might fix all that in camera picture developement such as noise reduction, saturation and contrast. I always thought there was too much in camera developement going on. They might even fix the auto focus as well although I think its a lot better than what people say. The 5D Mark III, 1Ds Mark IV and new Sony 30+mp cameras will be huge determining factors for Nikon and their next FX release as far as specs and release dates.

Either way I can guarantee that the 1Ds mark IV will not be a superb solution to ISO noise. Many still think that the surprise sensor will show up in the D700x or D700 replacement. I'm positive the D4 will not come out until at least Feb 2011...

Any idea what size imager this is supposed to be in? I don't care if Sony makes a 100MP imager--if they keep to their 4/3rds imager form factor, it's still a 2.0x crop factor for us. The form factor we need is DX- or above. When it comes to crop-factor, light-gathering capability, and low-noise images, size DOES matter!

Okay, DUH! Now I see that Sony started introducing full-frame D-SLRs way back in 2008. Where have I been? I thought Sony announced they were discontinuing Maxuum-mount, Alpha cameras? The A900 and A850 are still on B+H's site.

It has been vaporware for Pentax for several years now. I guess we'll know in a few weeks time. I hope they've worked on the body design just as much as the sensor. The mock-ups I've seen seem kinda clumsy.

I wonder if this Pentax will use the same Kodak sensor (KAF-37500) as the Leica S2? Wouldn't that be something!

I hope that it would handle like the Film 645, it was not that bad to shot with. Yes the KAF-37500 sensor would sure make it a great camera, but could that be done in the D3X price area

Considering the D3x sensor is based off of a Sony chip (right?) then I could see this new Sony chip being engineered by Nikon for a release this December or something. D3Xs.

My Nikon PMA prediction is the D700 replacement. D700s. D3s sensor in a D700 body with video capabilities. And I'd love to see some new lenses, like an updated 85mm f/1.4 and an updated 200mm f/4 macro lens.

That's true, mb, but it may be even less cost effective than the way they do it now as I think they'd need to invest in some new fab facilities with all the extra overhead that brings.

If Canon can do it I suppose Nikon can too, then again it does require some serous feasibility study so I am most likely wrong.

I'll bet people who've tried the Nikon D3x and the Sony A900 would argue that Nikon is designing their own sensors even if they're not manufacturing them. It's a subtle difference, and I guess if anyone thinks there's no difference they can just abandon ship like the traitorous OP is suggesting.

There is more then an obvious difference do not get me wrong, Nikon has the line for finishing sensors by adding micro lens, Bayer CFA and packaging so they are far from being the same as Sony.
My point is they could be able to put out new and better sensors on the market sooner without the constraints agreement with Sony brings.

what's remarkable is if it is real, we'll be exceeding resolution of film for the first time in a non-medium format body. . .sweet!

Actually, shivas, the canon 7D has higher resolution than a 32MP FF sensor would. It's 18MP with a 1.6x crop. That works out to a density that would give you 18MP*(1.6^2) = 46MP on FF. I don't think physical sensor resolution is the whole story, though.
