As the roller coaster continues it now looks like their won't be any new DSLRs released on the 24th annoucement. It sounds like its just going to be Nikon's new EVIL system point and shoot body, and maybe if we are really lucky a new lens? I guess the damage in Japan from the March disasters have pushed things back several months and can't be overcome. I'm sure at the big PMA event we will get some new bodies hopefully. The D7000 is new camera and outstanding too, but it will remain at the same price for quite some time.

Yes a "price drop" in a way but not on new cameras. If a new D4 is announced I would expect a lot of pros over the next six months to sell their D3, D3s and D3x to replace it with a D4, if that D4 is substantially better. The same will be true of the D700 or D300s or whatever is replaced by "newer and better" cameras. Instead of a price drop on new current cameras, I would expect a "glut" on the market of used cameras which have been replaced by new models. Those old used cameras we longed for and could not afford suddenly may become affordable. If a generation old camera contains all the features you really need, it may be a good buy. Maybe for the same dollars a new D700 cost a year ago you can be shooting a used D3s in six months. If a camera shutter is rated at 150,000 actuations and it has only gone through 28,000 actuations, it may have more than enough life let at half the price when it was new. Perhaps in six months we will be debating the topic "Is a used D3 or D3x or D3s at half its origial price a better deal than a new D4 at full price?"

All products see a gradual price decrease throughout their lifetime, due to decreased production costs and to increase demand. Based on history, It is unlikely that a new release will affect this, as new products are released at higher prices, and have a long lead time from announcement to availability.

D90 will hold at present prices, as its "replacement" the D7000 pushed the prices down .

The D7000 is a new camera that was announced in August of last year and up to and past christmas was hard to get.

This camera is at the top of the consumer heap and the bottom of the Pro, can't see the price dropping.

mirrorless would not compete with these bodies, therefore if they do announce evil, then it would not make a difference to the photographers who would buy a D7000.

FX would be a lot more expensive, therefore they will not affect the sales of the D7000.

I see it holding its price.

Who really knows...track it on pricegrabber if you really care..
Usually, Nikon bodies are off 25-30% their original MSRP 2 years out; this would place D7k at $999-1100 price point, which I don't see happening until Nikon re-introduces rebates this fall/winter depending on how badly the consumer index tanks here in the US.

In my expert opinion, it is unlikely that we will see the prices of petroleum drop after this date. The market cannot sustain it. However, one can ponder.
