Yes, he could have used a mini wireless surveillance camera concealed in a wig but no one would be talking about him.

He may soon find that attaching a low-tech door knobs tethered by an impossible cable for 24/7 gives the mother of all headshakes and is not worth the cheap fame he is getting out of it.

At least, when I walk around with 20 pounds of cameras wrapped around my neck, I can claim I do this for superior photo quality :0

Recent Convert said:
Distortion is noticeable, but easily corrected in "post". Contrast and resolution are superb. The one improvement I wish: reduced flare when the sun shines on the front element, but not actually onto the sensor. This could likely be accomplished with an additional Nano-Crystal coat on another surface (or two or three). It does not require a new optical design. I feel no need for VR, larger aperture or larger range.

I doubt this lens is on Nikon's shortlist for urgent updates. It's not on my list, either.

/gasp...you said the N word. That double or triples the price of Nikon lenses...someone delete the post before Nikon sees the money signs flash before their eyes ;)

I saw that story on Boing Boing couple of days ago. If you want total authenticity then use film and ask to see the negatives.

Now I understand why no surgery or doctor was required to "install" it.

A buddy of mine worked on a project at the Moran Eye Center dealing with a visual prosthesis that works much like a cochlear implant for hearing impairment but for retinas of completely blind people. Check out this page: http://www.bioen.utah.edu/cni/projects/blindness.htm
Last I heard they had something like an 8x8 pixel array working well enough that the patient can get around the house just fine. I can't imagine losing my sight. It's so nightmarish that I don't even have nightmares about it if that makes any sense.

It sounds like this camera in the story is just glued on to the back of his head or something. If they were going to break his skin I doubt the museum would let them do it without a doctor.

Wafaa Bilal, a New York University photography professor who announced that he would have a camera inserted in the back of his head for an art project, issued a statement on Tuesday saying that the camera was successfully installed.

As part of the project, titled “The 3rd I,” the camera will take pictures at one-minute intervals. The images will be streamed to a computer database and then displayed on screens in a gallery in Qatar, as part of an exhibition organized by a new museum there.

A spokeswoman for Mr. Bilal, Mahdis Keshavarz, said that she did not know the details of the procedure to install the camera but that it was not dangerous and did not necessarily involve a doctor. The exhibition, which will open to the public on Dec. 30, is being curated by a team in New York, Till Fellrath and Sam Bardaouil.

In a statement last week N.Y.U. said that it was in talks with Mr. Bilal about the right way to ensure that his camera would not take pictures in university buildings, in order to protect students’ and faculty members’ privacy. A spokesman for the university, Richard Pierce, said on Tuesday that he did not have an update on those discussions.
