Whew, I thought I was the only troglodyte. I have a cell phone but not a modern smart phone. It can receive texts, but cannot send them very well and makes calls. That is the whole repertoire of its actions. I've had it for 5 years now, doesn't skip a beat and I can go almost a week between charges. My friends think I'm insane, but I think it's one of the best cell phones I've ever had.

I don't need a smart phone, but I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

I've changed my wishlist from my earlier post. I thought I wanted a Speedlight, but have since changed my mind and have now asked Santa for the Nikon 40mm AFS DX F2.8 Macro. For $279, the reviews seem like the perfect close up lens for someone like me. I currently use the 18 - 200 VR II, which for me is a good choice for someone who doesn't want to change lenses often. But, I do sometimes want to take a picture of something 1:1 and this lens seems to be the right ticket.........

After 6 fixed lenses and 8 zoom lenses, I got to that stage. For me it is easier to introduce a new lens than a cheap umbrella for my flash.

Nothing from Nikon for me this Christmas, maybe a variable ND filter though.

Wow Christmas came early for a lot of people this year and what gifts! Mike, Lenses are always the way to go anyways right? :)

Santa came early here as well, got my Nikon AF-S VR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED Micro. Loving every minute with it.

Fortunately for me I'm at that stage already Jonny. The day I bought home my brand new 70-200 2.8VR2 (on the camera, not in the box, to make it look old!) my wife was sitting in the living room, looked at the camera/lens combo in my hand and said "ooh, that's a big one!" and carried on reading the paper!!!! Luckiest escape of my life :-) Ignorance really is bliss.

Looks like I just got mine early. Ebay-ed a Tokina 300mm f2.8 AT-x for $1,100.

X-mass is done for me this year. Now to sell some stuff I have been meaning to pay it off.

Skintbrit, have you read Patrick McManus's short story called gun running? It's hilarious and right in line with what you're suggesting here. I'm new here, but I've asked Santa for a Speedlight 700 and a modest tripod. I currently have neither........

Id like a PhaseOne back for my Hassy, but i'll settle for a handful of pocket wizards. ;]

I'll keep you informed. I'm more of a city and suburb shooter for street and never really liked the idea of walking around with a backpack in those environments. Nothing. Nikon is really starting to irritate me by not announcing the D800, D400 and D4. No money spent on Nikon this year for me. I will wait for their new products next year.

I'm going for a couple of Lee ND Grad filters and maybe a "fader" filter as well. Maybe a couple of flash modifiers or another Sb-900.

I have always put the 85mm 1.4 on the list next to the 300mm 2.8 but santa must not be able to get them in my socks. ;)

That's why I love my Pelican 1510, 2 gripped cameras and 7 lenses (including the 70-200 2.8) with room to spare. And I don't have to let the bafoons in baggage handling touch it when I fly!

My kit already doesn't fit in my bag, my D40 with the 105mm Macro attached doesn't fit, I'd need to take off the lens every time I put it away.

Part of me would like the 200-400 f4, but I've succeeded so far in only buying 2.8 or faster glass, I think it would be a shame to spoil it :-) Maybe I should get a Sigma 200-500 2.8!
