The D700 supplies are already getting low, I doubt the D700 will be around long enough for many people to move up to FX once the D700 replacement is out, whatever it may be.

We will get an affordable fullframe camera this year and it will be the old D700! This is because the next FX model will drop prices down into a range which is more attractive to people. I don't think Nikon will make a new FX body in the DX price range. Why would they bother? Why kill the cashcow DX line and its lenses?

That being said, I really look forward to this years PMA and the coming months. I think 2010 and more so in 2011 are going to be exciting for Nikon lovers.

Niko, why would you abandon DX? If the pixel count goes up without degradation of IQ, those of us who enjoy the greater reach of any given lens should rejoice, not abandon, the newer cameras. I don't base my buying decisions only on price.

I hope it is not smaller than 4/3, which IMO is too small, APS-C or bust, IMO.

Admin I'm not giving TH credit for the rumor. I was just pointing out his most recent "2010 predictions". Besides I figured that when the head of Nikon's Goto R&D lab finally admitted Nikon wasn't making an MX(medium format)camera, then how else was the mystery of the "MX label" going to be explained?

I hope Nikon doesn't come out with something even smaller than m4/3rds :^( If Leica can stuff a full frame sensor into an M body and the D300's sensor into the "compact" X1 then why does Nikon need to go even smaller than m4/3rds for an EVIL camera? What's the point in keeping DX around if Nikon can then make a 3X crop (or whatever it is) f2 telephoto lens that is "pocketable" and gives you great reach?

I think the D7000 will be a 'consumer' D700: D90 build and FX. Why wouldn't a replacement D700 be a D800? D900 for the 18MP/24MP FX makes sense to me.

NR post from 11/11/09:

http://nikonrumors.com/2009/11/11/will-dr-evil-knock-on-nikons-door-nikon-evil-camera-recap.aspx

"The first interesting thought is that the long rumored MX product line could actually mean MicroX, even though some of the previously rumored MX resolutions are too big for an EVIL camera."

"All of the above lenses have an image diameter of 17 mm. Currently Nikon doesn’t have a camera with 17mm sensor (diagonal) which is smaller than 4/3rd format (21.6 mm). In some of the patents the lenses are described as “employable as an interchangeable lens system”. If Sony comes with an EVIL system next week, it will be interesting to see the sensor size. If the diagonal is 17mm, we will have a BINGO since this is where Nikon will get their sensor from (speculation)."

:)

Yes I know that, but the label "MX" has been rumored long before only it was suppose to mean Medium format. So perhaps it's actually for the mirrorless and or m43rd camera line.

Thom says right in his post that "MX" is just a placeholder he is using, not that it would be the actual name.

Thom Hogan is predicting that Nikon will call it's EVIL camera line MX. (M for mirrorless? Or perhaps Micro4/3rds?). He says it's going to have a sensor smaller than the APS-C of current DX cameras.

He also says a D700S,D3XS, and D900, with 24mp are coming this year. The D90 replacement will be called the D7000(14mp?). Another "prosumer" camera will be called the D5000(18mp?). The entry level group will be the D3500 (D3000 replacement?) and the new MX M3000. He predicts that Nikon's entry level DSLR cameras will go mirrorless. The advanced amateur cameras including the future D300S replacement will be DX while FX will carry the Pro cameras.

I still think we will see a prosumer "affordable" FX camera. However the big problem with that is that it would kill the DX line. Why would I want a DX D7000 when I can buy a D90 like full frame? I guess we will see. In the mean time I'm still not buying anymore DX lenses since it now seems that I will also need to buy MX glass :^(
