Hi, I' T140AV Rider. The Handle is named after a Triumph Motorcycle. I have the only one of its kind ever made.
I've been using Nikons since 1978 when I bought an FT3. My current gear is as follows

Sigma 15mm Fisheye
Plus an assorted collection of Bellows and extension tubes.
I'm mainly a wildlife and lansdcape snapper but I do anything really. My Charity calendar this year includes a Coal Fired Chip Shop!

I've been lurking on the site for a couple of years now, a member for a few months and today is my first post :-).

I've looked at PAD almost every morning for a couple of years now and the quality of posts continues to amaze me and give me ideas.

I'm from Ireland and been interested in photography since I was a teenager (a long time ago) when I got my first Practica SLR. I moved to Nikon a couple of years ago and now have D300s, D800, 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4 and 105mm 2.5.

Mostly interested in Landscapes, Buildings and some photos of the kids (when they allow me)

Still not worked up the courage to post - although I will shortly.

I' m a video dabbler too.
when my a77 broke down I wanted the new a99 but it couldn't be had in france for love or money. Then I remembered that before I had loved the d300 and came back to Nikon and a d800. Although I miss some of the the reach of dx ( and the 500 af mirror minolta )I am getting my bearings.The 1.2 and 1.5 dx crop modes are handy.
Video is good enough butI relly miss the a77s articulated screen for video.
I use a 70-300 usd + sigma 150-500 os. I should get a 300mm f2.8 + tcs today or tomorrow
apart from photography, I am in traditional Celtic music and languages. I organize ceilidhs in the Breton language.I have been studying Ireland's language and landscapes for a few years now...

I've been a lurker for a while and felt that it's high time to join the party. Used to shoot film but my daughter fell in love with photography and now we have something to do together.

I consider myself a landscape/nature shooter and an aspiring "strobist".

I'm shooting DX these days because I like the reach for shooting birds.

Current rig:
D7000 with a couple of DX, FX and a bunch of older film lenses.
For some reason, I tend to favor the close and wide lenses.

Hey everyone. captjamo here. Regular middle aged guy just getting into photography. I have a D5100 with 18-55mm, 55-200mm and just ordered the Nikkor 40mm. Already I am enjoying shooting nature, architecture, sunset/sunrise vistas, botany and insect macros and, of course, portraits of my beautiful grandchildren. Glad to be logged in here. Looking forward to learning a great deal more about this wonderful area of interest.

Time to introduce myself, after having been a member here for a few months:

My name is Tord, and I am presently employed as a bus driver, but I have done a lot in my life: conscript in the Swedish Air Force, dish washer, security officer, firefighter, editor, editor-in-chief, journalist, technical illustrator, car builder, to name a few.

I've got a MA in journalism, but jobs for journalists are scarce around here.

I got my first camera, at a tender age (around nine), and it was a Kodak Brownie Starlet, which had fix focus, and two settings - one for B&W and one for color (the aperature changed between the two settings, that's all). No batteries, nothing, but I managed to build myself a flash that work OK.

Then it was my sister's beau that had started to earn money (he was a bit older than she), so he decided to scrap his old camera gear (Edixa Reflex, made in W.Germany in 1957), and all those lovely lenses, and bought a Hasselblad setup instead - it was in those days made here in town, so if you had the right contacts you could get one for less than the list price. So I bought his gear for about $100 dollars, which gave me a camera, SLR, with exchangeable prism (like the F-1, and about as heavy!), four lenses - everything from wide to 400mm telephoto lenses - and a lot of other gear.

This is how I learned the basics, but eventually tired to carry all that bulk, so I eventually (decades later) gave it all away, and meanwhile had turned to Minox 35 - two, each costing as much as three times the sum I had paid for that big kit! One with color slide film, and one with B&W - usually Tri-X.

I carried them with me every day for years and eventually wore them down - that a girl borrowed one, and that got dunked with her, by her sea scout patrol, didn't help a bit!

Then I turned to Konica Big Mini compacts, very durable, and with good optics, but eventually the digital era struck me, so I bought a Konica digital compact - as I knew I liked their optics (still do).

That was followed by other compacts, and eventually a row of Pentax DSLRs (K-x, K-7 & K-5), and a number of lenses. Eventually, I bought a Nikon V1 to my wife, but she opted for the Olympus OM-D E-M5, that ran rings around her K-7, performance wise.

I then inherited the V1, and after a few months bought a TF1, and a few lenses (new and antique), and that lead to a D3200, and eventually a D600! But before that almost all the Pentax gear was sold, and I haven't been sad about that one minute (well, maybe one minute).

So I shoot single birds on the ground with the V1, and AF-S 70-300 VR, groups in the air with the D3200, and heaps of birds with the D600, preferably long-legged ones ;-)!

I chanced across this forum the other day looking for info on d800 continuous video af on dpreview.

I like learning the tricks of the cameras I have, possibly to make them do what they are not supposed to be able to do.I love it when people help us learn simple tricks, that make it worth our while again ! I remember the thrill of using a canon af to nex autofocus adapter or the la ea2 with huge minolta lenses!

I have owned a d300 before then switched to a77 because of video capabilities for wildlife photography. Before that I I was a long time minolta user ( 5d a100 a350 a450 a55 a900 ). i also used an eos 5d, an eos 1d ( mk1 ) and e3.
I love 400, 500 lenses, old 300 f2.8 ( sigma, tokina )

My a77 broke down some time ago, and an a99 culdn't be had for love or money in france until late december, so I called it a day and and answered the call of the 36 megapixel muse

apart from birding, bif and landscape photography, I am also involved in celtic languages and singing.

I'm Jim. I'm wintering in the Phoenix area but call Canada home. I came to NR to ask advice on a camera purchase (doesn't everyone in this hobby do this?) some months ago. I got good advice and was happy to purchase my first DSLR from a friend who decided to move on to FX. I'm currently shooting with:

D300 (used)
Nikkor AF-S 70-300 mm F4.5-5.6 VR (used)
Nikkor AF-S DX 12-24 mm F4.0G (used)
Nikor AF-S DX 16-85 mm f/3.5-5.6 (new)

I took several course after I purchased the camera so I'd know what the heck I was doing. I also joined the photography club where I'm wintering as they have access to lots of different software and offer software tutorials.

I have lots of things I still want to buy but the top of my list is a remote. I have an iphone and I was considering ioShutter. Does anyone have experience with this product? Lots of people complain about having to buy the cable and then still have to purchase the advanced software but if it's a good product I don't have a problem paying the price. Any input?

I've been on NR for so e time, lurking mostly, so I thought I would introduce myself and say Hi.

I've been into photography off and on since since the 70's. while I've never considered myself anything other than an enthusiast, I paid rent while in graduate school shooting models for a modeling agency and a few weddings and Christmas cards for faculty and students in the mid 80s. I shot with a Ricoh, which I still have, and Sigma Series 1 lenses, if anyone remembers those. I always wanted to own a pro nikon body but could not afford it. I didn't do much photography through the 90s but finally got back into it and bought a D5000 when it came out, upgraded to a D300s, and finally achieved my goal and got the D800 earlier this year. With my 24-70, 70-200, 80-400 and a few other lenses, I no longer have any excuses. I will say I miss the feel and size of the old film bodies, and shooting with film, but I don't miss the hours in the darkroom.

I think the most exciting change I over the past 30 years for the hobbyist, is the ability to share your work with others through the web. I k ow some pros like to look down their noses at the social media outlets, but.its very gratifying to know that your work is seen, and sometimes appreciated. It's a lot better than staring at cases and cases of slides in you closet that no one will ever see.

I've followed Nikon rumours on Twitter etc for a while but have only just joined the forums.

I currently have a d5000 and refuse to upgrade it until it dies ! :)

I started to look at photography as a hobby back in early 2011 and since then I've upgraded the 18-55 kit lens to a 17-70 f2.8-4 sigma, I've also got a 35mm f1.8 and a 55-200 (twin kit, kit lens) along with a few yongnuo speedlights and an sb-700 a few stands and light modifiers.

I call my self a strobist wannabe and a hdr lover.

Mainly family portraits and automotive shots whenever I get a chance.

Seem to spend more time reading and researching techniques rather than actually putting it into practice.

Hello All. My name is David. My middle name is Paxton.

I am the proud owner of a D3100, and have been very much enjoying learning about photography for about the past 6 months. Actually... LOVING my new hobby. So much so that I actually got paid to take photographs yesterday for the first time. My lenses include:

- Nikon 35mm f1.8
- Sigma 17-50mm f2.8
- sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6

I do happen to have a question (and being a contributing member to other forums in my life- I understand the hatred that lies in people's hearts for those that post a new thread with a question that has possibly been covered in the past) - but any input is greatly appreciated!

I found myself in need of a fast-ish telephoto zoom lens yesterday chasing down a 2 year old to take photos of, and clearly I have a gap in my gear. Had I done all my research before jumping in head first into photography - I most likely would have actually went for the D7000 with the internal AF motor. Alas, I went for the new technology out of my ignorance and now I am left unable to take advantage of the decades worth of older pro Nikon glass. I am sure my next progression will be to either D7100 or D400 whichever comes out - but these are the lenses I am considering:

-Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR1
- Nikon 70-200 f4 (pending reviews)
- sigma 70-200 f2.8
- sigma 50-150 f2.8

All of these lenses are in my comfortable budget (being up to about $1,600). Of course, one day I would love to move to full frame but likely at least a few years away. I feel as though I have already outgrown my D3100 - I love to shoot landscape as I find it very relaxing. Meditative, almost. But I see that I can make some money to fund my hobby by taking people photos.

Hi Msmoto, ta for welcome/ I don't like any of the Digital bodies - to me they are all plastic and just don't feel nice to handle. Now if Nikon made something like the Fuji X Pro 1 that is alovely bit of hardware - I believe you can even get an adapter to use Nikon F mount lenses - may have to go that way if Nikon don't come up with something that suits.

You are in the right place...all the Nikon gear...

A question... the digital bodies are so varied, I am wondering which ones you do not like. The function of some of the newer digital cameras is phenomenal...and the bodies have a myriad of adjustments. But, you will find on NRF some folks who are similar to you in their preferences, then some who may not share your viewpoint. So, jump in and have fun.
