I doubt the 80-400mm replacement would be north of $2000, otherwise people will just go for third party alternatives, just as they do now. It would have to be a consistent F4 lens or something of that nature to justify that price, and Nikon already makes the 200-400mm VR, so that kind of kills that idea.

You have to believe that the 80-400mm VR will be the next full frame or significant lens to be refreshed. Its the only VR lens that has not been updated and its getting quite old now. The refresh will be well over 2000 grand, but many will be happy when its released. Nikorz have you ever tried a 35mm ZF Zeiss lens? Its really something especially the newer .2 with aperature control confirmation.

Has anybody shot with the 35 1.8 DX on a full-frame body? Out of curiosity, I threw mine on my FE2. I didn't expose any film but I stop down the lens and do a quick peep through the viewfinder and didn't see any vignetting. Has anybody played around with this? I can't imagine the corners are going to be wonderful...it is a DX lens after all. But because I didn't see the edges of the image circle, I'm curious if somebody has tested the lens on FX.

do a search, I posted pictures awhile back.

I guess it is a matter of taste and what you like to shoot. I didn't keep the 35mm f1.8G long after upgrading to the D700. Vignetting was not too bad for some things, but terrible for others. It was sharp in the center, but corners, along with the vignetting were a little soft.

Yeah, I kinda like the effect for certain things. Its nice to know I can still use the 35 1.8G DX lens with a FX body. Especially, since I will still shoot DX (2x D7000).

I just stumbled across this Flickr member. Here, you can see shots of a D700 and 35mm 1.8G DX lens. The vignetting is actually not that bad. I will keep my 35 1.8G when i get a D4/D800/D900.

Mods, not sure if it's OK to post this link or not, if it isn't feel free to remove.

I seem to remember someone trying it on a D700 (or maybe D3?) and posting the results. I'm not sure if it was on this forum or not. There was a lot of vignetting but I don't remember anything about the sharpness.

edit: I should have searched before posting. Here's the thread (It was a D3): http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=2586

With a 1.4 release and some have said the 35mm 1.8 can work on full frame (vignetting not too bad). I would think a 2.8 would be a more likely if one at all. It would make more since to see a 85mm 1.8, & 24mm 2.8 would be updated before a 35mm.

The only lenses that are probably in line for updates in the next 4 years:
(order is my best guess but I think it follows what Nikon has done in the past.)
85mm 1.8
16mm 2.8 fisheye
24mm 2.8
300mm F4
135/105mm DC
18/20mm 2.8
70-180mm or 200mm Macro
180mm 2.8

There was some talk of a possible 85mm F1.8G, but nothing about a 35mm update as of yet.

So we just got the 50mm G f1.8 replacement for the D version, any 'sight' of a 35mmG (f2 or even Better a 1.8) replacement for the D versions on FX? I know we have the new 1.4 but I'm after a cheaper fast prime (for low light stuff) in the new G range...?
