Hi, I am using View NX2 2.3.1 64 bit. When sorting through my files/photos I cant delete files within this program. The delete confirmation window pops up but when i click OK, the file remains. Just wandering if anyone else has this problem and/or a solution.

Thanks.

No problems here ...

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies, very much appreciated. Collectively you have resolved the issue for me. I have completely dispensed with NX2 and bit the bullet by installing and using Aperture and this is set up to be my external editor. So far, so good.
Thanks again for assistance and pointer in the right direction!

@mickahtec: Are you trying to edit JPEGs, NEFs, or DNGs? Have you updated your Mac OS to the latest version, which can handle the D7K raw files? Also, what do you have checked under the ADVANCED tab in iPhoto preferences? Is the "use RAW file in external editor" checked off? Your other complaint about not being able to view photos in NX2 is pretty vague (although ultimately I suppose it might be the source of your other problem if NX2 is not installed correctly) so perhaps you could be more specific in describing the problem. I assume you can bring up View NX2 as a standalone app and that after you launch it you can see your folder/directory tree. After you select a folder, you should be able to see the files in it, e.g. thumbnails in the filmstrip along the bottom of the NX2 window plus a normal sized display of the first file in the main viewing panel. There is a little icon near the top left-hand side of window that lets you switch between different NX2 view modes. I assume you've played with that, too. Out of curiosity, have you used the NX2 uninstaller to remove the Nikon app and then reinstalled it? It's hard to see what could go wrong with such a simple install. It certainly worked without a hitch for me on my Mac.

UPDATE: I tried to edit a photo in my iPhoto library using View NX2 as the external editor and experienced the same problem as you had. NX2 came up within iPhoto but could not see any individual photos inside my iPhoto library. In fact, the iPhoto folder was not even listed in the directory tree that's displayed within NX2. Apparently NX2 does not recognize Mac OS X packages like the iPhoto library. Because of this limitation in NX2, you will not be able to use it as the external editor within iPhoto. I also tried invoking Adobe Photoshop CS5 as my external editor within iPhoto. It worked just fine. It's a much better image editor than View NX2, although NX2 offers the advantage that it allows you to access and inspect more of the metadata in the photos from Nikon cameras.

I've had a very similar issue, then discovered a remedy almost by mistake. A pro photographer friend of mine who swore by NX2 made me upload a copy of his to try it out. Unfortunately, he being a PC guy, he couldn't figure out why I couldn't open up an Aperture "file" from the NX2 interface. The answer is that the very thing that makes the Mac interface so simple and intuitive also makes it difficult for things like this. Now I don't use iPhoto, I use Aperture. However, NX2 works in Aperture like a plug-in, sort of like Photomatix. I can't speak for iPhoto; my guess would be that it's a pretty consumer-level app, so therefore it's not optimized to work with NX2.
In Aperture, choose a photo, then right click your mouse. The first item on the hover you'll see it "Edit With". Currently my sub-menu shows NX2, Dodge and Burn, and Photomatix. Select NX2 (you can also use the shortcut shift/command O), then go about your business.
Still trying to figure out what all the fuss is about when it comes to NX2.

Hello mickahtec,

Welcome to the board. After realizing that your cry for help is still hanging here without a response I feel compelled to give my 2 cents, which is - I never really liked View NX2 and I'm deleting the trial version of Capture NX2 from my Mac hard drive as soon as I can find out how. Aside from iPhoto I've used Aperture and am still in the trial phase of Lightroom 3. I will decide on one of those soon - will not comment here as that's another long thread.

I just found View and Capture NX programs slow and they often froze. The interface of neither really pleased me either. I know this doesn't help you but perhaps it could give you peace knowing that you aren't the only one that found View NX a bit dissatisfying. I don't know but it could just be how View NX works on a Mac vs a PC. Others might have a different opinion.

Regards

Guys, Cry for help if anyone has time to stop me pulling my hair out!! Despite changing settings in iPhoto on my new iMac to have Nikon View NX2 as the editing application when I select edit on a photo in iPhoto View NX2 just hangs and indicates 'processing'?

I also fail to appreciate why I am unable to view photos from a folder on the MAC using View NX2?

Would appreciate any pointers in the right direction......
