Wishing all you great photogs a merry Christmas.
I love the "pregnant bow" photo (makes me want to be young again), and "Hockeyman"; great image (and beautiful model)!
@spraynpray I'm sure "Tommie" had her in for Christmas dinner.

My photo, and yes, that is a "singing" Christmas tree, and NO, that is not my golf bag. However, I did get the Nikkor 105mm f2 dc lens, so....

I assume this lens is for street photography, is that right? Can I ask someone that does use this type of lens, why is f1.4 required? I do landscapes and clearly don't need this lens and the 1.4 comes at a huge premium so I like to understand the drivers.

All studies show that white background is better on the eyes. All major websites have white background. Maybe I should od a poll. I still kept the black/yellow theme to remind us that this is a Nikon related site.

The amount of spam we were getting lately was out of control. Unfortunately, this forum platform did not give us enough tools to fight/block the spammers. The new forum is a much modern solution and it looks much better. It is one of the easiest to use forum packages out there.

The Christmas tree shots were a lesson that started off in full auto mode and ended in Aperture Mode using aperture to control outside lighting and flash compinsation to control inside lighting. It's now back on the green thingy and works wonderful:)

This seems to be very interesting lens indeed. How come this lens is superior to 35mm from Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Zeiss ??

Because it´s newer technology with new design..

Sigma has really been on a roll since they released the 85mm f/1.4 HSM a few years ago. The 120-300 2.8 OS is a fantastic piece of equipment for the price. I am so waiting for the leaked 300mm f/2.8 OS prime

Well, the text box is gone for starting new threads, and I can't make a search.........so......does anyone have any experience (or recommendations for AC power / LED lights ?

Oh.....I just remembered......one more question; I recently bought a Hoodman loupe (used) on eBay; the thing was described as "3 inch loupe for D SL:R's etc....even had a sales promo photo (apparently from Hoodman); the "thing" arrived today........the "hood" is a mere 2 inches X 1 1/2 inches ! I know in reason this thing was designed for a P&S model camera; I sent the "guy" a VERY terse email; you completely misrepresented this thing.......therefore I want my money returned IMMEDIATELY (if not sooner), as I will be contacting eBay on nor about Monday, next.

eBay has always been very "wishy-washy" with seller problems, but this one is so clear cut they don't even have to take my word for it !
They already have a copy of his advert, and I shoot a photo of the thing sitting on a ruler ! I still haven't been able to locate anyone who has actually used the Hoodman LCD loupe.

Here's something else to think about; any time you are photographing any kind of a building, (especially with a WA lens, it's VERY important that the camera (and tripod) is on the same level as the house / building, whatever; if you get the lens axis the slightest bit "up", the perspective will be distorted, and the ends (or sides) of the house will be wider at the bottom, and sloping in at the top, all of which will ruin the shot, even if your exposure is "right on".

I recently ran into the same problem one night, and I had only taken my 12-24 F 4 WA with me; Needless to say, the resulting photos were terrible ! I returned the following night, mounted my 80-200 /f2.8, and re-shot the pictures from about 100 to 150 yards away, and this time everything was nice and straight, the image was composed much better, and the pictures were about 100 times better !

If I get a chance before the lights come down. I'm going to go back again and this time try it with my MF 35mm PC lens; ( I haven't used the thing since I quit shooting Fuji Velvia with my F 5 ); (should be "fun" experimenting with the D SLR !)

Nice suggestion actually and now thet I think about it I would like for their cameras to have a function for it... I have always used lightroom in post though and If you can put your subject in the same place on the grid in the viewfinder the batch process isn't horribly bad... Also considering that is supposed to be a alternative for those who are too poor to go into medium format digital it isn't a bad idea...

Verify? It asks me to fill in a new application (my existing details don't work), and then comes up with that when I click on the "sign up" button. What else should I be doing?

****Don't worry, ignore my last, I think the problem was allowing my iPhone to "auto fill" my email address. After entering manually it has gone through O.K.*****

Hi again,

A quick update: the new forum is now live at http://forum.nikonrumors.com/discussions and several member have already created their accounts. Again, I am sorry that I have to ask you guys to sign up again, but this is the fastest way to move over to the new platform. I will still try to import all old discussions over, but this may take a while because I will have to hire somebody to do it. In few days I will switch the old forum to "read only" and will keep it online as a reference until I figure out how to import it correctly (the few attempts I did with the help of my hosting company were not successful). If you have recently started a new topic on this forum, feel free to start again on the new forum.

Thanks,
Peter

when the new one goes up, it probably wouldnt be hard to have a single html/javascript redirect so that anyone that comes to this old ur, it would automatically redirect them to the new url.

just a thought.

I single redirect is easy to do, the problem is to map every single post after I import the data to the new forum. Very difficult, because the new forum has a different URL structure.

Has anyone purchased the gray market 300mm f4?

I traded in my 18-300mm (DX) lens when I upgraded from a D5100 to an FX body.. And Adorama insisted I give serious thought to purchasing the gray market version with 3 year Mack warranty. I ended up taking their advice but am still within the 30 day return window.

I am not worried about resale value.. As I plan to keep this lens around for a long time. Are there any other downfalls I'm missing?

I'd be grateful for some input..
