The Nikon rebates in the US for this month are not as good as the curent promotions in the UK. Amazon offers up to $150 off when you purchase a qualifying Nikon digital camera (including Nikon 1, D3100 and D7000) and Nikkor lens (see the list of available lenses).

In March, the price of the Nikon D700 will drop to $2199.95 in the US. This is $500 reduction from the curent $2,699.95. The price in Europe was already reduced few days after the D800 announcement. The Nikon D700 will be available for sale at least for few more months, maybe even till the end of 2012 (considering that the D90 is still listed on Nikon USA website and available for sale).

Today Nikon released  new firmware updates for three of the Nikon 1 zoom lenses. The fixes include:

• An issue that sometimes caused the aperture value recorded in image data to differ from the actual aperture value at which the image was shot has been resolved.
• An issue that in some rare cases caused images to be blurred when shot immediately after the camera was shaken or moved quickly has been resolved.

• 1 Nikkor VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 L firmware 1.02 upgrade
• 1 Nikkor VR 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6 L firmware 1.02 upgrade
• 1 Nikkor VR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 PD Zoom L firmware 1.01 upgrade

Amazon also raised their prices, complying with the new Nikon policy, for example:

• Nikon  24-70mm f/2.8 is now $1,889.00 (was $1,700.96 last week)
• Nikon  14-24mm f/2.8 is now $1,999.00 (was $1,781.76 last week)

The current Nikon instant rebates on the D7000, 5100 and 3100 will probably be extended till November 19th. The rebate program after November 19th will depend on the situation in Thailand.

Here are the details on the new Nikon instant rebates that will start on October 16th and will end on November 19th, 2011. Keep in mind that even with the new rebates, you will be paying full price starting this Sunday:

• $400 off with the purchase of Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8
• $300 off with the purchase of Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8
• $400 off with the purchase of Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8
• $300 off with the purchase of Nikkor 24-120mm f/4

The above savings will be valid only with the purchase of the following bodies: D7000, D700, D300s, D3s & D3x (D700 and D3s will probably be out of stock). The D7000, D5100 and the D3100 may have a separate $100 rebate. Some consumer lenses will also be included in the rebate program. I will post the full details on Sunday after the rebates become active.

B&H price: $2,399.95

Since B&H will be closed till the weekend, it seems that they already updated their prices according to the new Nikon policy. You can get a feeling of the new prices on their website. Here are few examples:

• Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 is $2,399.95 at B&H, currently $2,159.96 at Amazon.
• Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 is $1,889.95 at B&H, currently $1,700.96 at Amazon
• Nikon  14-24mm f/2.8 is $1,999.95 at B&H, currently $1,781.76 at Amazon
• Nikon D7000 is $1,199.95 at B&H, currently $1,099.95 at Amazon

Amazon and Adorama still have the old prices but this will all change on October 16th. If you have planned to buy a lens, now would be a good time to pull the trigger and save few $.

Just a reminder that there will be a new Nikon instant rebate program starting on the 16th (you will need to purchase a Nikon body in order to qualify and the D700 and D3s will probably be out of stock).
