I received a tip that the first Nikon D5 shipment will come with a Sony 32GB G-Series XQD memory card ($109.95) and a Sony XQD reader ($37.95) included for free, just like the D4 did four years ago. My understanding is that this will be valid for all worldwide shipments and is not specific to a region.

The new line of Sony XQD memory cards will be available at the end of May are now available.

UK dealers have confirmed that the D5 will start shipping around March 18th.

    So what about D500 peeps?

    • TylerChappell

D500 peeps may also be able to receive the free XQD card, but it may depend on where you purchase it. This pamphlet was handed out at the launch event at Robert’s in Indiana.

      • David Weinehall

        $50 off on a 50/f1.8 or 35/f1.8 is a pretty good deal, $150 off on a 400/f2.8 — not so much.

        • TylerChappell

Lmao, I thought the same thing

      • Tom

Mike’s Camera in Colorado had the free 32gb XQD with pre-order also.

  • Eric Calabros

They’d better bundle, that expensive ass wireless dongle. am not the target market, but its my opinion, also humble.

  • Ish

The new Sony M series XQD (32GB and 64GB) cards are already available – B&H just shipped mine. No date on the 128GB though

    • Ha, I swear I checked before I did my post and I did not see them listed… I will post this online. Thanks!

  • JMD

Well, that’s sweet of Nikon to offer a free XQD card and reader! But how about 2 cards and I think I’d make that move sooner rather than later.

  • Nikos Delhanidis

i hope its true and that they will keep the trend to the delayed D500 also 🙂

  • T.I.M

When I bought my Nikon D1 I got a free 8MB compact flash card !
Believe it or not, 16 years later, the card kept its value, it’s still hold 8MB !

    • David Weinehall

And with today’s cameras you won’t fit a single photo on that card 😀

    • RX78

and I’m sure even fill up the 8MB, the weight is stll the same right ? 😀

      • T.I.M

Well, for the weight, it depends if you record in RAW or JPEG.
        :o)

  • Mike

But what if I order 2x CF?! 😉

  • usa

Interesting as that is not the card spec’ed in Nikon’s brochure to achieve the max advertised performance.

  • jsa

A little teaser to get us beta testers to buy immediately.

  • Zinchuk

Yup, I got one of the first D4 units, and it had a 16 GB XQD and reader. And that was the only XQD I have owned to date. If and when I get a D5, it will be the CF version.

    • JJ168

How do you feel spending the same as others but cant utilise the same 200Raw buffer?

      • outkasted

either way it provides users with CHOICE!!. You can send in the camera to change modules. WIN!

        • JJ168

Agree. Although we have no information how much it will cost to do the conversion. I am afraid people that going CF now with intend to convert later to save initial outlay for the new card will not save much in the end.

Definitely good time to be photographers at the moment.

  • Hardcore_Fanboy

a D5 with double CF slot and one will get XQD card + reader – as a reminder – “it is 2016., time for change duhh”

  • Hamza Küçükgöl

My salesman text me recently that the first D5 pack ethylene them from Nikon will ship with 32gb XQD memory cards and sony XQD Card readers in Sweden

  • Saso

Bugger! Couldn’t they do it also with D4s’s first batch? 🙁
