I wonder if nikon will continue to produce waterproof lenses or abandon the aw1 project

    • They filed a bunch of patents, but everything is possible at that point.

It always seemed to me they took the then current J series
body and the 2 worst selling lenses from the range and used them as the basis for the UW system, to try to broaden the 1 series. Surely any further development would depend on sales and profit. Anyone know how well they are selling?

Only a little waterlogged. Just a little. No problem…

I never had any problems with mine. I use it for kayaking, and have immersed it in salt and fresh water for long periods. I’m not a fan of this whole series of cameras, as I am not thrilled with the IQ, but I get decent shots when I need to. Just know the cameras limitations….. They need to produce more waterproof lenses for it. One has to immerse it in water after use and remember to use the silicon.
Video isn’t too bad either, but of course it is not professional, but better than iPhone video….
These cameras are toys. Would I use it on client shoot. Absolutely not. Although I have actually sold a few images that I have taken with the 1AW1 with that 11-27.5 lens (the only lens I use for it.) The only time I take the lens off is for carefully applying the silicon on the seal. And this should be done in a dust-free environment and not when you get to the sandy beach.

For underwater work you’re limited by the depth limit and the lack of an ultra wide angle lens. The N1 system is lacking ultra wides in general, but it’s more important in UW shooting.

Like I said… it is not for pro work… It is a toy… but knowing its limitations is the key to taking a good shot….

Never understood why in the world they didn’t put a dx sensor in this baby in the first place. Then this 1 series would have stood out.
