Nikon-D4-refurbish-sale
Ebay (via Roberts Camera) currently has refurbished Nikon D4 cameras for $4,249 with 180 days warranty and free shipping. This is a pretty good deal considering the original D4 price ($5,996.95) and the current D4s price ($6,496.95). FYI: Amazon still has some new D4 cameras in stock for $6,199.00 (via third party reseller).

Hopefully that will also help bring the price of the D3s down on eBay. People are asking crazy prices for them.

    • Eric Calabros

They have good reason for that: its still badass

      • Killroy™

        I know… but damn!!! I want a D3s but I don’t want to pay almost the same as a D4.

        • broxibear
          • Killroy™

            I’m not… $3800+ for a 70k shutter count D3s is nucking-futs.

            • broxibear

              A new D4s is £5200, a new D800E £2350.
The price doesn’t come down much on the D3,D3s and D4 used bodies in the UK…don’t know about elsewhere.

            • OnTheRopes

A new D4s can be got for £5000 in the UK if ou ask around the shops

        • SMF144

I gotta D3s that I am willing to part with if interested?

          • Killroy™

How much and what is the shutter count?

            • SMF144

I don’t think much, but I’ll have to check and see and get back to you. It’s taken a back-seat to my two D4′s.

    • Theodoros Fotometria

It is the “reviewers” to blame for D3s high s/h prices… All they did when D4 came out was to compare the 2 cameras for noise ignoring all other aspects of IQ, where D4 (especially at low ISO) simply outperforms D3s by a huge margin… Personally I prefer D4′s IQ at base ISO, both out of the D3X or of the D800E… Nikon’s 16mp sensor has some “magic” in it that no other DSLR has.

  • broxibear

if you’re in the UK and are after a D4s then WEX have a couple of them which are open box but returned as unwanted, “Goods have been opened, inspected, tested and returned as unwanted”
    £200 less than normal price…enough for a new 50mm f1.8 G AF-S.
Some retailers still have D4 bodies for £3900.

      what kind of freak bastard wouldn’t want 4Ds ? It’s a strange world indeed…

middle class amateurs with G.A.S. and dominating wife

        • mikeswitz

Funny, I thought you were a middle class amateur.

I know, don’t feed the troll.

          • d800e_shooter

lord heels is saying the truth. A not so rich guy bought a D4S, the wife found out the price, and force him to return….. it happens everyday.

            • Manvin

that’s life i guess – rich people have no problems but wife usually get bored lol

          • lord eels

my ex wife left me because I bought a USED corvette z06. it was a fantastic deal and under 1000 miles barely driven and basically half price. I told her I didn’t have a choice, I had to buy this car. she left and I said good riddance. no kids so who really cares, but in the settlement she tried to essential force me to sell the car. that vengeful B_TCH!

and no I shoot full time and have since the day I graduated high school.

            • Manvin

Nice car buddy – sorry to hear about ur ex wife, she could’ve be more supportive :)

      • MyrddinWilt

Someone who thinks it is too heavy to carry on a business trip, like me for instance.

I fly 50K miles a year. Weight and bulk are critical.

        • http://www.rmjphotography.net/ RMJ

Yeah, I’m sure the plane can’t carry one camera…

I hitchhike roughly 10,000 km a year and got no problem carrying two bodies with me at all time.

          • Dpablo unfiltered

I tried to hitch hike while carrying bodies with me and nobody stopped. You must be very attractive.

            • http://www.rmjphotography.net/ RMJ

can’t say the same about the bodies

  • KT

The good news is that the D4 never had any technical or manufacturing issues, so you don’t need to worry about the left AF point or sensor dust. You get a rock-solid camera for 2K discount. The question will be whether you need it now or willing to wait for the D800s by the end of the year.

    • Kynikos

D4 and D800s should interest two rather different groups of photographers.

      • joec

Maybe, but if the D800s is way faster, has lower resolution, and a few tweaks, then it could be quite interesting to the group that would be into the D4, if they don’t need it to be quite so rugged. I don’t think we know exactly what the D800s will be yet, but I’m hopeful for 7+fps and 16-24 megapixels. I might just be dreaming.

        • Kynikos

I don’t know why we would speculate that the D800s would have fewer MP than D800.

          • KT

It’s a given that the D800S will retain the 36 MP sensor of the original camera with a few tweaks but you’ll be getting a camera that’s technologically 3 years ahead of the 2012 D4 for at least $1K lower price than a refurbished D4. That means better processor, better sensor, faster FPS, better video, sRAW, all these features add up.

        • mikeswitz

Why in the world would Nikon turn the D800 into a mini D4s. That would make absolutely no sense.

          • d800e_shooter

D800S WILL BE 36mp no-AA sensor. 1080/60p. D4S-style AF. 9MP RAW-S. 1fps faster in all crop modes….that’s all that we know for now.

          • Fred

Exactly. They don’t want to do the same as the D700 that cannibalized the D3 / s

          • Theodoros Fotometria

There is a very good reason… to sell more cameras! The question is if they will do it… not “why they should”! There is no reason for Nikon to have both D800 models at 36mp whatsoever… If D800E was as it is, but D800 was a camera with D4 “guts”, Nikon would have dominated the FF market by now…

            • mikeswitz

              Not gonna happen!

    • Garfield

D4 had (has?) AF issues and sudden death syndrome.

      • Manvin

I have Nikon D4, however I don’t have any issue with AF.

        • Garfield

There y’go then all D4 bodies are just perfect.
          QED.

          • Manvin

Not all bodies are 100% perfect, I’ve seen one guy who complaint about left AF in other forum

  • lord eels

wow deal of the century. one has to wonder about how abused those shutters may or may not be. I wouldn’t want a time-lapse or remote pray and spray d4 for any price.

    • D800 owner

I got my refurbished D800 from them. It was against all advice on here. It came with everything in sealed bags. I could not tell it was used. 3,500 shutter count. Cannot beat that for $2,100. I decided my next camera was going to be refurbished after I bought my D7000 for $1,100 and a year later it was worth $580. That’s too much depreciation. Worse than buying new cars.

      • lord eels

people tend to use d800s and d4′s differently. your 3500 clicks were probably 100% left AF testing leading to a final scrapping. just saying.

  • fjfjjj

Where’s the ISO dial and wood veneer?

  • whisky

on the plus side — comparing apples to spinach — it does makes the V3 look like a real bargain.

  • Good Dea?l YMBJ!

    Nah.
Still too much & the price of the D4s is leg lifting.

  • Killroy™

Just watched a D4 with 80K shutter count fail to make $4000 (Reserve not met). People are not willing to pay even that much. Let alone high $3k for the D3s that most people are asking.
