Shipping estimates moved up! That must be a first.

I bet this will turn out to be a classic.

  • iamsilvermember

Salute to people who are going to be Nikon’s free white mouse.

    • Xavier

Yeah… I’m happy with my D5100, but after D600 dust problems it’s worth wait a while before jump on new Nikon cameras. A shame :/

Nikon really screwed themselves by not addressing the issue which was pretty well known among some D7000 users. Now everyone knows about it and it’s really hurting their D600 sales and probably D7100 sales as well. Demand for D7100 will be tepid until people can confirm the problem has been fixed.

        • Spy Black

Doubt it. These things will fly out the door. I’ll wait and see how they fare. I’m now crossed between getting a D600 to make better use of my FX optics, or get D7100, which is a much better equipped machine than the D600, albeit DX.

          • Micah Goldstein

If you do landscapes, go with the D600. If you shoot anything that moves, don’t hesitate to get the D7100. CAM3500 is proven tech, and CAM4800 is poorly QC-ed junk.

    • Kareem

Yes , I want to be white mouse and take these amazing sample pics

  • Willy

These pics show what camera raw and photoshop can do. They are not jpegs right out of camera,

  • Jonathan

Those 3rd party battery grips are sure looking good…

I’ve posted this a bit but here goes again: in actual use the Meike MB-D10 knockoff was actually a little lighter and a little more comfortable to use. Had to mod a BL3 to work with it (swapped the lid with one that came with the knockoff grip), but it worked.

But only for about a year, then it refused to work with batteries (buttons still worked). Meike offered to send me a new one if I send them the busted one. I needed it for a gig, so I just bought a genuine Nikon one.

I guess it depends on your priorities. The real one was $269 new, and the knockoff was $69. For someone who can live with it breaking once in a while, that’s a good deal. For a work tool, it wasn’t worth my time.

I now have two MB-D10s and they work great. One of them is four years old now.

  • zzzz

Reasonably happy with my 2 year old D7000. My main gripe is back focusing problem with certain lights and fast prime lenses. If they fixed that, I might upgrade.

Can’t wait to get mine. It is going to be an excellent camera both for stills and video. I will make a lot of money with it!

  • Charley Farley

Comparing a D7100 image against a D7000 image, zooming in on the 24mb sensor, I would stick with my d7000!

    • Eric Calabos

another “gimme D4 sensor in $1k body” statement

      • Charley Farley

The best camera in the world won’t make you the best photographer as much as a brand new top of the range stratocaster guitar won’t make you jimmy Hendrix or Mark Knopfler!
The best camera is the one you have with you!

        • Martin

No. The best camera is the one you can’t afford.

          • Aldo

or… the best camera is the one that hasn’t been made according to what you read around here

          • http://kyleclements.com/ Kyle Clements

And that camera you can’t afford is just a distraction away from picking up a great lens that would make far more difference in your shots than any new body ever could.

Looking forward to getting my D7100 from Memphis Photo Supply in Memphis TN. The people there are on the ball.

  • Nikonhead

BHphoto still has it for March 21st

    • Hayder

      Same goes for Adorama.

They were closed yesterday and will probably update their website tomorrow. I will post once the new rebates are live.

        • danpe

Body only and kits started showing up today in some european countries so shouldn’t be long before they hit the states?

  • Hosers

    Save $3.00!!! I’m in!

  • Rhonbo

Only problem is there is not way to shoot and process raws until our raw convertors get upgraded. I may cancel my order unless I know an upgrade is coming soon for LR. Otherwise I might as well wait until then and see how the camera performs.

    • http://kyleclements.com/ Kyle Clements

I’ve had good luck with “Dark Table”, a FOSS RAW editor for Mac/Linux (no windows version).

It could open raw files from my D600 long before lightroom or aperture.
I’m currently using an older version (1.1.1) that does not support the D600, but files from my D600 open up without issue.

  • One More Thought

The images seem to look very sharp…benefitting from the lack of AA filter…

If Nikon can ship without any major QC problems, they’ll have a winner on their hands…

    For my Birthday

    Thank You NIKON

  • cowboystuff

What lenses were they using for all these sample photos?
    They never mention those facts.

    • binarycodes

Its mentioned in Flickr image info.

      • cowboystuff

        I’ll check that again. Thanks

  • Ardev123

Hi Nikon fans. I have a question. I never owned a DSLR but I have read and self-studied photography for a very very long time. I’m about to pre-order the D7100 but I am not sure if I should start with the Kit lens or go body only and get a “better” lens. I will initially do landscapes and short-range wild-life. Suggestions?

    • grant torres

Get the body only option and get a faster lens. Lots of third party lens out there that can do f2.8. A kit lens on 24 mp body with no AA filter would not give it much justice.

    • Boosh

Body only and a good fixed apature lens f/4 or better yet f/2.8. You will spend a lot more than for a kit lens but is the best money you will spend, think of the extra money as a wise investment. I really wish I did this from the start.

    • Marty

buy a Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC and you will become happy :)
      it´s sharp and not expensive

    • Jon McGuffin

If you don’t want to spend much, start with the 50mm 1.8 prime. It’s on a slight discount now and can be had for a song. Great optics and a lens you will likely have for quite some time (good field of view in DX too).

    • Deguzmangg

start with a body then a 50mm 1.8 D sharp but cheap lens, it will enhance your framing for a start then build your way through there

  • BrainBeat

Maybe The guy and the local camera store was right about only 3 weeks away when I asked him a week ago. I just hope he is wrong with the guessed Australian price (~$1800 BO, $2100kit ).

    • BrainBeat

It seems they have now listed preorder pricing on their website which is $1699 BO and $1999 kit. To me it looks like we have pricing ~£80 v UK pricing and over $500 v the USA.

Will wait for the after market grips..Sorry Nikon.

  • Lou

Any thoughts? Will the powergrip on the D7000 fit the D7100. Looks like the model number changed.

    • Tommy

Different grips. Won’t fit each other.

  • Tommy

So if I pre-order this on amazon now, it will ship out on the 14th?

    • Matthew Fleisher

No. I ordered mine in last month and now it shows out of stock.
