So, is a compact APS-C coming or not?

    • http://nikonrumors.com/ Nikon Rumors

      Yes, next week I think.

      • http://Flickr.com/inthemist InTheMist

I’m hoping for an XPro1 killer, but will settle for an X100s equivalent.

      • rhlpetrus

Do you have any details about possible lens adapters for WA and midtele? Or if it carries a VF of any type? Thanks.

    No D400 rumors?

  • btdown

Could we please get some info on the d700 successor? Anything?!

    • d3100

Why do you think there will be another D700 successor? What is D800 missing, that this successor would have?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=572614912 Jay Donahue

        Speed.

        • Jon McGuffin

Nikon is not going to release an entirely new body with a pricey point squeezed between their D600 & D800 to accommodate nothing more than 1-2 FPS increase. It’s just simply not going to happen anytime soon.

The next generation of bodies may give you what you want at the $2,600 – $3,000 price range but that is likely literally years away…

Get over it and get out and shoot ;)

      • lorenzo

Maybe the ISO, the fps and… the LT focus bug!
From what I read here people want a D4 sensor (as megapixels, ISO and fps) on a cheaper body.

        • Jon McGuffin

ISO on D800 is similar to better than D700 when sized for an apples to apples comparison. FPS is an insignificant difference at a half a frame a second. The LT focus bug is gone, corrected at the factor for all new bodies being shipped. It was a temporary bug. They don’t replace an entire camera body because a bug that is fixable.

          • lorenzo

I guess they don’t want something SIMILAR to the D700 but better, maybe they want 18 Mpix and 11 fps.

Unfortunately the left focus problem HAS NOT been corrected at the factory and still exist, see this blog and customers reviews at B&H in the last two months.
Lucky you is your camera doesn’t have it.

            D700 gets 8 fps with grip, D800 gets 6.

            • Aldo

I think the max on the d800 is 5 fps with grip even

            • http://Flickr.com/inthemist InTheMist

Yep. Only in DX mode and only with the D4 battery or AA battery adapter can you get 6 FPS.
If I can stir the flames, that’s why I got the D800: a better D7x00 when I need it to be and a better than D700 when I need it to be, and a better D3x when I need that.

            • Aldo

That’s awesome I didn’t know about the 6fps… shows how much I need the fps in a camera :P

            • Aldo

omg I just tested my d800 with AA batteries on the grip @ around 5.8fps with grip dx mode felt so awesome… though I added 100 clicks to my shutter. I’m even more in love with it now.

      • http://nikonrumors.com/ Nikon Rumors

The D700 was replaced by the D600 and D800 – they will be nothing in the middle.

    • Jon McGuffin

There will be NO D700 successor. The only body left to be replaced is the D300s and the D400 will do so around summer when the Canon 7DM2 is released. The D700 was replaced with the D800. Outside of a half a frame per second slower, there is virtually nothing that a D700 replacement could offer that wouldn’t be what the D800 is.

D800 is now $2800 at B&H. This is essentially the same price the D700 was offered at during it’s peak. D800 *IS* the D700 replacement.

      • le_el

Unfortunately, D800 is way too slower, way too sloppy as a D700 replacement. 4fps and 8fps IS a huge difference. Buffer is filled up very quickly with a D800, while D700, you will get plenty and quickly released to shoot again. Poor autofocus system of D800 also makes it less ideal for shooting moving subjects. D700 and D800 are completely different cameras. No camera has yet to replace D700 except for 5D Mark III.

        • joseph

Nikon is committed to sales and not with the photographer. Therefore the replacement of d700 will only come when sales of D800 lose his breath. Canon is already gaining a lot from it.

    • Spy Black

I’m afraid you’re going to have to use your D700 for the rest of eternity. Or at least until you get over it and buy a D800.

    • Aldo

      There may be a d800x though… just a thought

Oh, sad D300 replacement wanters and D700 replacement wanters… You already got your replacements, even though you don’t like their specs or numbers. Sorry, but I bet you’re not going to get what you want any time soon.

    • lorenzo

Any ideas? To edit my own posting must login again, it takes the changes and after a refresh they are gone. Thanks.

Off topic: Peter Disqus keeps logging me off since installed Firefox 19.0, any idea? Thanks.

This is really scraping the news barrel.

I have been doing this for years, I don’t see a reason to stop now. Those posts give a good overview of what happened in the past 30 days if you are not a regular NR reader.

      • Aldo

        Agreed.

      • phentex

Proof : i’m not a regular NR reader. In one glance, i understood that Nikon is still playing jerk towards D700 owners. See ? :)

  • Elfx

    Found this:
The D7100 employs a high-speed and highly precise sequential mechanism that drives mirror and aperture independently.
on Nikon web site. Does that mean D7100 supports live view aperture change? (and if it’s not, I believe it’s by mistake and will be fixed via firmware)

Check out the way that the girl transfers her files from her Nikon DSLR to her iWatch about mid way through the video.

I know it is only a concept video at this time, but that is really freakin’ cool. I want one of those!
