    Yaawwwnnn…..
Honestly, only compacts as a Fuji X10 will excite me now.
f/2-2.8 zoom, 2/3″ sensor, those should be the minimum specs for any decent contender for “high-end compact” now.

But what we all want, really, is an M9 with the 35mm f/2 ASPH…. small, amazing IQ…
    Damn you, expensive Leica!!

    AW100, semi interesting.
P7100, not interesting at all. Might as well go micro 4/3.

I would get the aw100 for my girlfriend. She tends to always drop things. She even dropped her cell in the toilet bowl once! So I think that camera suits her best. He’ll she can leave and forget the aw100 in the freezer and it’ll still be fine

I think everything that is going to be announced next week already leaked. I do not expect anything else.

Since not much is happening at NikonLand I was wondering whether you have a collection of manufacturers that make adapters for Nikon lenses to be used on different bodies.

I think this would be useful since 1) basically it is almost impossible to buy any Nikon FF (even at MSRP … everyone is out of stock) and 2) many are thinking about using their lovely Nikon glasses on non-Nikon cameras such as the NEX-7. (Even I consider to give a try to that NEX-7)

I could care less about people’s speculations of camera specifics, functionality, etc. I just want to hear that Nikon can now direct it’s efforts to this portion of their product line and finally get something out that we can use. It’s seems that all other areas have been covered recently.

      If you’re waiting for the D400 that’s mean you don’t need a D800.
      Get a D7000/D5100

I’m interested in the AW100. Have a trip to Australia coming up so might be nice to have that around the water. Also need something that does movies. Hoping this turns out to be halfway decent. Just waiting on reviews.

Ha! I live in the midwest of the US and know my limits. The only body of water that I get into any deeper than my shins is a swimming pool. And I always make sure I can see bottom no matter what the water is. :p

Doesn’t look like the camo version of the AW100 is for sale in the US? Are they afraid of the militia movement buying these cameras?

Why does every manufacturer have to push a GPS unit into these types of cameras.

I dont want your GPS. You can shove it in your marketing departments peoples back hole.

Yawn, that AW camera doesn’t even have RAW capability. Sheesh!

    • Mock Kenwell
      Posted September 17, 2011 at 1:04 am | Permalink

There isn’t one tough cam on the market that DOES offer RAW. The image quality isn’t good enough. That’s NOT why you by a tough cam. You want to take your DSLR into the water? Drop it from 2M? These cameras have specific purposes. Jesus. The ignorance on this board can be palpable at times. Sheesh, indeed.

Terrific! Can’t wait for the P7100 reviews. Hopefully this addresses what for me has been the real drawback of the P7000 I’ve taken everywhere the last year- the lack of a flipping screen.

This is smaller than the Fuji X10 with a greater lens reach, yet maintaining a zooming optical viewfinder. All in all looking forward to a great package.
