    Good month

  • Anonymous

    D800 is coming !

    • The invisible man.

      D900 (and NO D400)

      • Anonymous

I don’t mind the name, it can even be D9sE37j, as long as it is 20mp+ & preferably 100% vf.

        • The invisible man

          and FX……
          :)

      • Dr Setoium

I don’t know why you think it will be a D900. Especially considering that the number 9 is unlucky in Japan and 8 is a lucky number (according to them).

        • The invisible man

yes, D900 mean no luck for Canon !
          :)

          • Dr Setoium

            Ok keep waiting… Lol

  • http://www.truphotos.com gnohz

Another 3 weeks of waiting :o

    • The invisible man

      @gnohz
You’re right ! 3 more weeks to wait and we’ll know that we’ll have to wait 3 more months….
      :(

  • broxibear

Sonyalpharumors are reporting that Sony are making their A77, A65, NEX-7 annoucement on the 23rd/24th of August too ?
Could well be the same sensor in the A77 and D400.

    • AnoNemo

I was reading the same broxibear. I wonder whether Nikon would change the date as it does look like that the grinch wants to steal the christmas ;-)

      • broxibear

        Hi AnoNemo,
A few places are reporting that Sony will be making a number of announcements on the 24th now…inc the A77 with 24mp sensor.
My best guess at the moment is it’s the same sensor you’ll see in the D400 next year, I also think the D4 and D800 will have 18mp sensors.

  • Anonymous

I am so excited! It’s seems like Years, years that these cameras have been coming, I have to say, the building anticipation is exhilarating. I hope I can pull the purchases off financially, it’s going to be a stretch!

    • broxibear

      Hi Landscape Photo,
He doesn’t write articles himself, he quotes Thom Hogan’s blog and some other blog I’ve never heard of called nikonrumors lol…the Thom article he’s talking about is from July 11th.

      • Landscape Photo

Ok Broxibear, yesterday’s blog of Thom Hogan is more interesting & up to date. He explains “why not yet a D400 but D800 along with D4″ on the August 24th.

        As we know: http://www.bythom.com

        • broxibear

Hi Landscape Photo, Thom’s a cool guy and his blog is always worth reading…what he’s saying is pretty much what Peter/admin has been posting here too…confusion after the earthquake.
He even wrote “my predictions have wobbled back and forth across the highway like a drunken driver. Let’s hope I don’t crash.”
I don’t know what’s going on anymore lol…the information I had was looking good before the earthquake, after the events in Japan it went out the window and now seems to be plausible again?
I have symapthy for those not knowing whether to buy a camera now or wait…I’m glad I’m not in that group and can sit back and watch the show.

        • DX2FX

Now, this has put more backing on the “Two FX DSLRs to be announced in August” rumor… Can’t wait !

        • D700guy

          I just read this.
What the hell is an NPS Pro?
Thom is stating that the D4 will be available for delivery at the end of the year to NPS Pros.
Does that mean that us ordinary pond scum types wont be able to receive one?

          • Mark V

NPS Pro = Nikon Professional Sevices registered Professional. And yes that means that chances of getting one if you are not a registered NPS Pro is gonna be slim to none.

Find an NPS Pro that isn’t planning on updating their gear…

          • broxibear

Erm, yes… if you’re a NPS member you’ll get priority.
It’s UK criteria are pretty extreme and plenty of professional photographers I know wouldn’t be eligible…including me, doh, lol.
            http://www.nikon.co.uk/sites/NPSApplication/

            • D700guy

              Well that sucks!

  • http://galleries.gorji.com Gorji

Its rare to see a Sunday Post by Thom. His explanation makes sense. Time will tell which way Nikon will move. Nikon being methodical in their releases, does it make sense to release the D700 in August and D400 in Feb 2012?

    • The invisible man

There will be NO MORE MARKET for D100/200/300/400….
      FX line D3/D/4 D700/D900
      DX line D7000/D90/D5100…. etc

      • NRTARD

        Yea right. Sure you betcha.

    • One More Thought

This makes 3 sources all pointing towards the August announcement of 2 new FF models from Nikon: Bryan Peterson, Thom Hogan, and the source for that NR article…

      • AnoNemo

…and all 3 sources are pointing each other as the source they heard the rumor from ;-)

  • NRTARD

Is this site super slow for anyone else? Who is this hosted through ?

    • http://dundermifflin.com dwight schrute

Are you talking about the site loading slowly? It happened to me a few days ago.

    • al la troll

…are you talking about 75% of the people posting comments?

  • IanZ28

Thom Hogan payed a great deal of respect to Nikon Rumors in his most recent article.

Frankly that leads me to believe that Nikon Rumors is more often than not hitting the mark for future predictions and maintaining credibility regarding camera technology and future expectations.

    Bravo,
    Ian

    • rhlpetrus

Indeed, we knew about D7k’s specs months ahead here, like 39 AF points, metal body, etc.

      KUTGW NR!!

So, now, the specs of D800 and D4, please!

      • AnoNemo

        @rhlpetrus
Yes, I agree either Nikon plug the holes where information were leaking or we will not see any dslr in August.

I am afraid the later is the case as recenty NR Admin posted the interviews with the Nikon execs they all talked about “new generation products are almost completed”. For me it does sound like we have nothing.

Besides look at the posts from NR Admin on the site. The clealry indicate that he has not received any info.

        • rhlpetrus

“Almost completed” is good, completion needs to include D4, D800 and D400, since the present models are all at least 3 years old (s updates are just minor ones or innards, like the D3s’ sensor, no body changes).

So, yes, at least 2 now.

          • AnoNemo

What is really odd this time around that there is absolutely no credible rumors. I am afraid quite few will be disappointed.

    • http://nikonrumors.com/ [NR] admin

As far as I remember [NR] did nail every single Nikon announcement for the past 3 years. Thinks went south after the earthquake in Japan.

  • broxibear

Here’s something interesting, there’s next to no D700 stock in the UK…those who do have stock have one that’s usually the display model.
The price has also rocketed…this is exactly what happened when the D3s came out, the D3 became difficult to find but it’s price went up not down.
Everything’s pointing towards a D800 announcement in August, long waiting times for orders and many complaints on this blog and others lol.

  • Hansel Adams

Does a potential August announcement/October availability for the D800 mean I won’t be able to get one until 2012?

    • The invisible man

In USA maybe Xmas, for others countries probably spring.
Guys, give up on the D400, you’ll have to deal with the D7000 or FX.

      • Landscape Photo

I agree D800 is better, but what’s wrong with a DX D400 (along with D800) to follow D7000, in the form factor of D300 ?

It will be welcome by a group of photographers as long as it does not have a hampering-high resolution (lens limitation, diffraction & IQ issues) for that format. I thing 16 to 2o mp (max) would be appreciated. Yes, D7000 has a incredible IQ for DX, but its ergonomics & build quality is not on par with what offered by D300(s).

I’d prefer a D800 because FX has a room for expansion in future unlike the already saturated DX, but won’t it be nice to see a D400 too?

    • broxibear

      Hi Hansel Adams,
Think back to the D7000, that wasn’t a camera people were waiting for, it was announced in September and people were still waiting for their orders in late January. I expect the D4 and D800 (if they’re announced) availability to be even worse…hopefully they haven’t rushed the move to Malaysia and there aren’t any quality issues, plus I can’t be arsed with post after post of complaints lol.

      • The invisible man

        @proxibear
I hope they will keep the pro camera/lenses in Japan or else it will be a fight on Ebay to get a “Japan made” lens with higher price.

        • broxibear

          Hi The invisible man,
I’ve been trying to get information about Tochigi, where Nikon make their high end lenses, but there’s nothing out there…the Tochigi Japanese site in the past had work monthly schedules I could translate but even those haven’t been updated since June ?
As I asked before, if you went to a shop to buy a 85mm F1.4 AFS, one made in Japan and the other in Malaysia, which one are you going to ask for ?…rightly or wrongly you’re going to want the Japanese one.
I can’t get any solid info on what’s happening with their lens production or which lenses they’re going to make in Malaysia.

          • The invisible man

When I sell a Nikon 50mm AF on Ebay I get more money from it if it’s made in Japan (small focusing ring) vs the ones made in China (even if the ones made in China are newer)

  • http://www.amanochocolate.com Art

All I can say is that I can’t wait to see what the “most read articles” are for August. Perhaps the Admin / Peter could give us a sneak peek…. ;-)

  • The invisible man

The D700 FX is out of stock at B&H ans Adorama !
    That’s good news !
    :)

  • broxibear

It’s been suggested that Nikon have taken their design cues for the mirrorless from their 35ti http://www.occamera.com/ebay/ebayapril32010/nikon35ti.jpg

  • AnoNemo

I have this feeling that on the 24th we’ll see only coolpix cameras. I mean we are 3 weeks away and there is absolutely just guessing about the new babies (nothing solid).

    • The invisible man

It will be a D800/900 this month.
I’ve been preparing my wife about it for the last 16 months, it would be a shame if Nikon does not reach our expectations.

      • AnoNemo

I am sure your wife will be disappointed too! :-)

        • The invisible man

          In what way ?
          :)

          • rhlpetrus

            Only you can tell! ;)

      • Joaquim Prado

I have been prepared mine for about the same time! HAHAHA. Last week I visited NYC and we were at B&H and she asked about if I would get a new nikon DSLR and I said I would wait a refresh from the D700 and she said: “You have been waiting for this for almost 2 years! Why so long?”
        hahaha

        • The invisible man

tell her: “honney, to get the best you have to be patient, I’ve been waiting for you all my life”
          :)

  • broxibear

Here’s some odd news about Notion VTEC, the company Nikon was apparently using for FX mount production because Sendai was out of comission. I don’t know if Nikon moved all it’s Sendai production and staff to this place or a new plant all together ?
“PETALING JAYA: Notion VTEC Bhd has been informed by its controlling shareholders that the negotiations with various parties are still on-going.
The company told Bursa Malaysia yesterday that it would make the necessary announcement should there be any matter that required an immediate disclosure.
Notion announced in April that it had been approached by a major US-based private equity firm for shares in the group from the controlling shareholders and Nikon Corp, Japan’s leading camera manufacturer.”

  • Landscape Photo

I see there is neither yet any leaked tech data nor a single spy shot of the new dslr cameras. Frustrating! But any idea where the Nikon meeting will happen on August 24th?

    D3 & D300 were announced at Tokyo on 23 August 2007: http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1187901361.html

    • rhlpetrus

And up the previous day no one had a clue an FF body was coming.

      • Landscape Photo

Congrats to the very tight-lipped Nikon staff ! 23 August 2007 was a milestone for Nikon introducing their first FF. Let’s expect something no short of that day for 24 August 2011. Possibly a revolutionary D4 plus a “5D II killer” D800…

        • The invisible man

          D900

          • Landscape Photo

Ok, D900. It doesn’t matter for me. But why would Nikon skip D800?

            • The invisible man

Because it’s too much time past already.
If the D800 came in the next 2 years it would be ok, but it’s now 3 years, D900 will have a better marketing impact.

  • Anonymous

I’ve made a search through B&H website for D800 & the answer was as below in a yellow box:
    ———————————————————–
    “We’re sorry!

Nikon has not anounced a D800 model.

Please check out other available Nikon DSLR’s.”
    ———————————————————–

The only inquiries that you may get that type of result is Nikon Nikon D4, D800, Nikon D900 & Nikon D400. For anything else, you’ll get like that one instead:
    ———————————————————–
We’re sorry. No items were found matching your search request for”Nikon D700x”.
    ———————————————————–

Does it indicate that as a major dealer, they may know what models coming soon, or is it just that being aware of many recent customer inquires concentrated on these names, they simply put this info for kindness?

    • AnoNemo

      @Anonymus
Very good catch. It is true it gives you different message.

Also, if you try D700x you get the same.

Maybe they already have something in their system?

      • Anonymous

Each time it must searched from the main page http://www.bhphotovideo.com to be sure.

Yes, D700x & D700s too are included in the “yellow box type” reply. But anything else would give their standard result of “no items were found…” Try e.g. D600 or D6000 (something not really rumored) and see.

      • The invisible man

        @AnoNemo
Nothing new about that, just a marketing tools.

If you go on Ebay and type “test chart for Nikon D800″ you will see a Test Chart even if the D800 does not exist yet !

I’ll say until Peter show us the D800/900’s picture, everything is possible (or impossible)
        :)

  • broxibear

I know some of you love your patents, here’s a new Nikon patent published today with images of a new zoom lens http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7990626.pdf

    • Landscape Photo

Finally a compact walkabout VR zoom for FX, or shall I be dreaming forever?

The sensor on the SLR drawing looks like an FX, and the design is quite compact. Maybe a 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 VR that will bundled with D800… Something to stay on camera for times a heavy special-purpose lens is not necessary. The 28-300mm VR is a bit bulky to fit this definition.

I know people will oppose me saying why I should have an FX if I need a walkabout lens, and suggest a DX. But unlike other genres, landscape photography doesn’t necessarily address an f/1.4 gem to get successful results; anyway apertures like f/11 are mostly used. Why pay more? Why lug unnecessary weight?

    • http://nikonrumors.com/ [NR] admin

hard to tell what this lens is, no focal length or aperture info is provided

  • One More Thought

One thing is for sure: August will have some exciting posts and heavy traffic on the site!

    • broxibear

And someone’s going to post this…
What a fail Nikon, the D4 and D800 are nowhere near as good as the new Canon dslrs…because of all the glass I’ve invested in I can’t switch to Canon, so I guess I’ll have to wait for the D5 and D900?
Have you got any rumours on the spec of the D5 and D900 and release dates admin ?
