First !
To add a real comment, sample images of the 17-35 f/4 are not top notch. At least deformation and vignet at 17mm seem low.
Why is it that at those Nikon online stores everything is in stock, yet overpriced?
@David Hasselblad
Why do you always have to be faster than me ?
Man, that was a REAL comment, you will make Ken jealous !
Second. I wonder what the Tokina is like. I might be interested in something like that.
Yeah, but the B&H price for the Nikon is still less than the price listed for the Tokina on PhotoRumors…
I won!!! I should buy lottery tickets! I predicted that Nikon will extend the rebate again! Let’s go and buy up all the 12MP.
And let’s make another prediction, Nikon will further extend the rebate after July 30!
@AnoNemo
Good idea, buy two 12MP, you’ll get a 24MP for cheap !
But how do you take pictures at the same time with both? Wouldn’t it make it actually 24MP 3D?
and why do you think God gave you 2 hands ?
I need one hand for holding up the brush!
Typographer’s eyes are bleeding of these rebranded logotypes.
NR Admin where did you go that you could not buy a simple USB dongle? You really had to hide and/or ran off the map to do that.
USB dongle won’t help if you don’t have any coverage (deep in the mountains)
USB dongles (many of them) have a little antenna connection. You can use a little electric wire and voila (if you don’t have a proper antenna). I often do that.
why suggest as alternative when same price (marginally more) as the Nikon?
I just received my AF-s 200mm f/2 VR II today, great lens, a little heavy for my wife.
(just kidding, I’ll never be able to afford a glass like that !)
and sure you would not let your wife carry that lens! She has to deserve to carry such tool. Just give her the tripod
the prices are high for the Nikon online stores that is why they are never out of goods since only an idiot would pay those prices
Lower price, always and always….
That’s the reason why you can’t find any local camera store anymore.
With a professional photographer who give you advices and where you were able to “feel” the camera/lens you wish to buy.
When I had my store, Nikon (and other brands) was selling me camera at a higher price that the online market.
Oh well, that the way it is, even myself now is buying online….
Why does’nt nikon have a line of lenses with good quality but not high grade pro shit 2.8, I believe canon has a full range of f4. With nikon is go pro or go shit.
@Kino Adell
Nikon DOES NOT MAKE MONEY on his pro DSLR market, the only reason why Nikon keep producing pro DSLR/Lenses is all about his reputation.
So, if you can’t afford professional Nikon DSLR/Lenses, get a SONY/PENTAX/WHATEVER BRAND.
16-35, 24-120, 200-400, 500, 600. All f/4, all VR, all gold ring. I have the first two, they are pretty high quality.
Frankly I don’t give a damn for another nutter who feels like showering his own camera; show me rather a video of same camera a week from now, or better yet, a video of said nutter going to shop to buy another body, and hopefully a lens too.
What’s the purpose of that app? All I would have to do is go to Nikon’s website for the same info and it wouldn’t cost me anything.
Interesting comparison of the Nikon 35mm f/1.4 G AF-S vs f/2 AF-D from Kai over at digitalrev http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEzeLrvkFGw&feature=channel_video_title
I had the AF-D 35mm f/2.0
Not a fantastic lens.
I agree, the 35mm f/2 AF-d is not sharp until stopped down to f/5.6. f/4 is just acceptable with visible loss of sharpness in the corners. f/2 and f/2.8 are not good at all.
The Tokina seems wonderful! Now let’s wait for the price (or is it already known)?
I said the same thing a week or too ago
@James
Actually I heard that Peter will rename the site Nikon News, but I’m not sure, it maybe be just a rumor.
Hi James,
You want a rumour?…
A new body to be announced in July, possibly Monday 25th…it can only be one of three so take your pick.
opps just realised got diverted to the PR blog just then, but yea, the tokina sounds like good match to the trustly 17-35 2.8D, which was introduced over 10 yrs ago (along side the D1) and manage to keep the 77mm filter size for a f2.8 lens. This new comer, on the other hand, at least on paper probably have better corners @17mm, good news for those who sit at home and stare at their monitor open at 100% crop… doesn’t bother me though.
The Tokina 17-35 f/4 looks like a winner to me (if you get a good sample, lol!), but it will probably be bad for infrared, like all Tokinas are.
