    First! (hopefully)
Never really understand these unboxing videos and photos. Who cares what’s in the box, especially when we already know what’s included.

    • Hari

Actually unboxing videos have helped me pack everything correctly while selling a lens.

      • Mac Rockwell

        +1 me too, it helps.

        • The invisible man

          +3.141592653 It help me also.

      • henrik

nice reason to like unboxing videos. never thought about that. even though to be safe one might want to take an unboxing photo of one’s own product. but i would *never ever* proudly publish this unboxing photo (let along unboxing video)

      • M!

how difficult is it to repack a lens and items back in the box??

        • NiknWontRepairMyGray

Agree. If you have trouble repacking something simple as a lens inside a box, then I feel sorry for you.

          • Hari

To make sure everything is included and not missing items.

        • http://www.andradefoto.com fotosniper

sounds like we need a proper “boxing” video or play this in reverse then

      • Anjz

Agreed. it’s also nice to know what a “fresh from the factory” packaging job looks like, so when you receive your box from the retailer and things just don’t look quite right, you can determine if they sent you a previously-returned item (perhaps it was returned for a defect). I like the videos.

  • okay

When they actually showed the lens the video was blurry…

    • http://dundermifflin.com dwight schrute

Well the video is on manual focus.

    • M Jesper

Actually the focal plane was the same the whole video, he only moved out of it by attempting a close-up of the lens. Truly a professional that’s for sure. Like reviewing a car while driving into a ditch.

What if this was a real lens… would humans be sacrificed in the unboxing/revealing?

  • PM

    Will it blend?

    • nir.exe

      ROTFLMAO.. I can’t stop laughing :):)

  • The invisible man

I hope the box is also made in China, I don’t like when items mismatch.
    :)

  • Chris

Did he just slam that lens on the table? Heavy hands there!

    • CK Dexter Haven

      Seriously. Nervous much?

  • The visible man

    i was soo hoping he’d drop it…

    • The invisible man

      it’s ok, it would bounce….

  • nir.e

Sorry but I unboxed my 35mm 1.4 afs AND the 85mm 1.4 afs, today,
and nothing can top that at this moment, I’m on a cloud.. world peace :)

    • another anonymous

i suppose me too early this morning, i just sweet overslept that ;)

    • http://www.flickr.com/genotypewriter genotypewriter

I had an even better experience, several years ago too ;)

  • paf

(Not as exciting as watching my chia pet grow but….)

This summer stay tuned as the box gets more action:

Box 2 – The Sequel. Exciting story of how a lens got boxed and returned to Nikon.

    • c.d.embrey

“Not as exciting as watching my chia pet grow but….”

That’s great – best forum comment I’ve read in months. Congratulations.

Now when will “behind the scenes” of an un-boxing video be poster :D

  • nick k

I love how the guy goes for the aperture ring to show the iris at the end. Ahhh, its a G lens my man. Don’t have one.

Paying way too much for a G lens you thought was a bargin – $319.00
Reaching for the aperture ring – Priceless.

    • http://rwophotography.com ChinChilla

I was just gonna comment on that :)

      Amazing.

    • Fred

      I thought it was a $219 lens.

  • Thom Rockwell

The video ended right around the best part

  • Tony

    WOW…. my first unboxing video!

  • benS

While the topic is about un-boxing nikkors, does anyone have an unboxing video of
    400mm f/2.8G , 500mm f/4G , 600mm f/4G ? :) :) :)

Oh wait, do they come in special cases and not a box ? :) :) :)

  • Brian

I’d rather see photos taken with the lens than another lame unboxing. We already know what the lens looks like.

  • Matstar

This guy has no idea how to handle a lens. Look how he tries to undo the rear cap and then shows is how to move the focusing ring rather than open the blades!

    • John

As a long-time Canon owner myself, I recognize that habit of trying to turn the cap the “wrong” direction. LOL!

  • Patros

… :-))) … useless clip… the whole video is out of focus… :-))) … out of DOF … and the way he knocked the lens on the desk… :-)))

  • The invisible man

I’m planing to do my D800 unboxing for you guys this week but I can’t find the box….
    :)

  • Filen

I don’t understand who watching unboxing videos. People who have trouble with unboxing?

    • M Jesper

People really anxious to get something but somehow can’t or are delayed. Or as said above to check all items that should be there when reselling. Or as i’m often curious about to check if i’d like the size and handling of things in hand.

  • Ben Schlockwell

Hope one day I will see an unboxing video with the box wrapped in Christmas paper……would look more exciting!

    • The invisible man

It’s my birthday tomorrow (for real) anyone would like to send me a 50mm Af-s f/1.8 ?

  • chris

this dude has some shaky hands…all i have learned from watching this video is that whoever created it should get tested for parkinsons.

    • The invisible man

I tthink I sshould ggeet teeested alsooo
      :)

  • broxibear

A lot of comments posted about why they don’t like unboxing videos and what’s the point of them…if you don’t like them that’s cool, let me explain why I find some of them useful.
With a new product, like this 50mm, it shows you that some have started shipping…it’s good to know if you’ve ordered one or are about to order one.
I like to see how a product is packaged, are the lenses from Thailand protected in the same way as the ones from Japan?, can Nikon learn from other manufacturers way of packaging?, have they changed the internal protection so there’s less chance of damadge during shipping? I know many couldn’t care less but for me it’s relevent, I’ve recieved damaged products in the past due to bad packaging.
I remember watching the Leica M9 Titan unboxing videos, they were fascinating, just to see what box a £30,000 camera comes in and how it’s packaged… and of course you imagine yourself doing the same thing, well maybe not the Titan but a normal M9 at least.
I know many working photographers and they’re always excited about opening a new piece of equipment, I’d like to think the shaking hands in this video are because he’s excited about his new lens…that’s cool as far as I’m concerned and I’m happy for him.
I’ve got no problem with unboxing videos…it’s up to you if you want to watch them or not.

    • The invisible man

I sure will be the first to be watching the D800/900 unboxing video !

    • Keith

“With a new product, like this 50mm, it shows you that some have started shipping…”

The written words “it’s shipping” would have much the same effect, without the need for another bloody inane unboxing video…

      • M Jesper

The D800 is shipping now. There.

  • Fred

You, guys need to stop asking for the D800. Nikon rumors doesn’t have them, duh.
And, every time you ask, Nikon kills a kitten!

    So, stop asking!

    • M Jesper

Every day it’s not here, I kill a kitten !

  • Dweeb

    Proof that Nikon is dead.

    • The invisible man

yes, dead on ! as always !

    • M Jesper

      Where ?

  • Delacroix

    Completly boring

  • Delacroix

    out of focus ….

Well, I can now attest this video is the real deal. My 50mm 1.8G got in today, and the packaging was just as depicted.

Oh, and… just from a couple of quick portraits of my wife, I am now convinced this is the sharpest lens I have :)

    • http://www.silentcreek.de Timo

Could you post some of your portraits somewhere? I would love to see more samples of that lens!
