Nikon UK started live chat support on their website

Nikon UK just added live chat support on their website where you can directly talk to member of the support team. Very useful feature if you don't want to waist time digging through Nikon's service and support website. The chat support hours are: Mo - Fr from 09:00 am - 05:00 pm GMT.

Oh, and please don't waste their time with questions like "when will the Nikon D800 be released" :)

hahaha too late, I am logging on everyday and asking about the D800 lol j/k

  • http://www.jawns.co.uk James Wright

    So how do magnets work?

  • iamnomad

Here, here! The D800 question is the only one I want answered.

    • agree

      +100

      (that and the d4)

  • Mikils

Well, I have to say I’m surprised that Nikon Customer Service, a traditional underachiever, managed to set up this feature; the few occasion I could use it, with other companies, it worked way better than call centers. Good work Nikon UK, let us hope it will be imitated in the rest of Europe.

    • http://nikonrumors.com/ [NR] admin

When I tried it, I got connected immediately. Very useful if you have a real question :) Currently requests can come from outside the UK as well. I am sure if people abuse it, they will limit it to the UK only.

      • Vandyu

Agree. Let’s hope a few “knuckleheads” will not ruin it for everyone. The definition of knucklehead is, in this case, someone who takes advantage of a good program for their own wasteful purposes. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should!

  • http://ronscubadiver.wordpress.com ronscubadiver

LOL, the chat is about a D700 replacement. I still think it is going to be July because Canon went 3 years on the 5D.

  • ZoetMB

waist=the part of the human body below the ribs and above the hips
waste=use or expend carelessly, extravagantly, or to no purpose

As for the online customer service, is it really located in the UK or are you actually communicating with someone in India or Malaysia or Singapore? And what is the level of the support people? If they’re not properly trained and they’re just going to quote from scripts, it’s a waste of time, unless they can also tell you where your repair is.

    • Jeremy

      Maybe it’s the U.K. spelling. :)

      • pooparty

andrzej… thats Polish. The UK has an influx of us at the moment.

    • Mock Kenwell

Check out the Tonto-style English in the screen grab. The queen would not be pleased.

    • Loco

I spoke t ofew of them already. I admit, I had no real question but here are the names:
      John – perfect English
      Fergus – perfect English
Andrzej – good English, some typo’s

I am no expert in language though as I am non-native as well but I think you can communicate with them with no problem. Also I would not be too annoyed by typo’s as it is chat after all. It is supposed to be quick so no spell checkers etc.

Nice feature anyway. I hope they will introduce Russian or Latvian at some point

Can we ask them why it is taking so long to update the D700?

  • The invisible D900

    Cool,
    Do they speak French ?
    :o

  • D40-owner

I just connected (pretty fast), and asked the usual trick question about the D7000 autofocus: How do I enable face recognition and eye recognition in phase-detect AutoFocus.
The response: “sorry, only in LiveView”…
WRONG!! The D7000 can detect faces and eyes in phase-detect, just as the D90 could.

So, this is just a regular, skin-deep tech support, not very knowledgeable.,

    • larky

And you can expand your knowledge by using Google sometimes to find that ANDRZEJ is a Polish name. I think that your teacher at school was highly underpaid.

      • Iris Chrome

Huh? What does that have to do with the tech support not being knowledgeable?

        • Mock Kenwell

My guess is he hit REPLY to the wrong thread. Something you might want to double check when you’re trying to take someone down a peg. Larky might want to question his own teacher’s resumé.

    • JorPet

LOL, right out of Left Field… :p

    • chuck

      How do you do this?

    • Loco

I think you are wrong or at least confused. AFAIK the thing you are talking about is auto scene detection that uses the metering sensor to detect colors, patterns etc and then decides which then determines which scene mode camera will use. If it decides to go for portrait then it tells AF to focus where the skin tone was detected but it is nowhere close to the face detection mode available in live view

  • http://www.vivesa.pl Fotograf Kielce

Anrzej is a polish version of Andrew. Andrzej is a Polish name. :)

  • PhotoGradStudent

Is it open for asking when the D4 will come out?

  • http://fuji-x100.blogspot.com/ Fuji x100 Ricoh GXR

And the Nikon mirrorless PRO ?

  • Phil

I don’t see that lasting long.

  • SDiggity

You know what would be a novel idea? If the Nikon Online-Reps are in an English-based chat session, that they could actually form complete sentences in English.

  • http://mikewaltonphotography.blogspot.com Mike

Cool feature for the general consumer. I wonder how many pros would be interested in paying for pro-level tech support?

  • choiMatthew

a slight typo – “waste time” instead of “waist time” =]

    • http://nikonrumors.com/ [NR] admin

I fixed that but it is probably still cached by your browser.

  • Dan

The guy should have just said that he read on Nikon rumors that it would be released soon! I am more than confused now about the time table of Nikons updates. It looks like that Nikon 5100 is all that we will get this spring because you should have heard of something by now if something was imminent. So I guess Nikon will announce something this August. What it will be is a huge mystery still. The only FX camera on sale is the D700. They are pushing the D300s obviously being a DX camera. So it only seems logical that those two units are imminent for an update. The D3s and the D3x is not on sale and the D3s has only been out for 17 months. I would think the D4 will be announced a year from now if you look at it in this aspect. I am not an expert at all, but I want a D4!!!!

  • pointshooter

Hmm, chat is not awailable. Has someone been asking for new toys to play with. :)

    • Loco

can’t you read? They areonly opened 9am-5pm GMT it is in the UK you know?

  • Me

I asked if the D400 was going to have a swivel screen.

He replied, “Unfortunately, we have no information yet, about new upcoming model. But it would be awesome if it did.”

  • Paco

So ,when WILL the D800 be released?

And yes, lets not WASTE anybody’s time. LOL

And when will be the D7000S be released?

    Thank you.

  • http://www.MartinWongPhotography.com Martin

    Ask them Has it begun?

  • http://www.truphotos.com gnohz

I have a feeling most of us will as the same question.

“When will the D800 be released?”

    LOL :D

  • RedOak

Asking support agents about possible future releases is pretty futile. Even if they were privy to this information as with most companies the staff would be bound to secrecy. Their actual jobs being dependent on it. It’s the same with car companies , computer manufacturers etc , sometimes the bottom level support staff only find out themselves a day in advance!!.

  • MazToz

Have a Nikon Lookout 1V binoculars with rubber eyecaps that are perishing. Are there replacements available even from a newer model that will fit?
