The bottom line: Sony’s NEX is the best EVIL design to date, and if Nikon’s EVIL doesn’t trump Sony’s camera in every benchmark—then Nikon is effectively playing to lose, literally. Playing. To. Lose.

There is ZERO excuse not to best Sony, or any other competitor, considering the competition has shown their hands already and factor in that Nikon’s had a year + of development time on top of that…. There’s just ZERO excuse here to not GET this RIGHT.

If you think people are upset or critical of Nikon’s recent “designed to be 4th place” P&S offering….think of how disappointed customers will be when (if) Nikon doesn’t deliver on its EVIL.

P.S. Keep in mind….Sony will release the NEX7 this year as well (the “pro” NEX). Nikon really needs to bring its A-game.

The heat will come from Sony, Olympus and Panasonic. All three seem to have their lenses strategy worked out. All three are currently redefining the markets for serious P&S and mirrorless. Sony and Panasonic are also video experts.

And I expect all three are going “pro” (or at least more and more high-end) this year.

Darn… what a bunch of cry babies… I thought these were the people who were really waiting for the D700 upgrade and were mad that it is late… now they bitch and moan about P&S. I am glad some of them, hope all of them, switch to Canon as it seems that is their goal. Now they can groan and moan on Canon Rumor forum. :)

Yup. It also tells me a little about Nikon fanboys… :-)

Come on, gentlemen: it’s just another compact camera, no strings attached. No need to invest in new lenses. Just buy another brand if Nikon doesn’t deliver this time around, and pray for better price/performance for their mirrorless offering.
