In this thread there have been quite a few DX versus FX comments. Having used pro gear in the field for years with film I am ALWAYS dismayed how they look in most replay situations. An 8x10 view camera will make a seriously sharp and wonderful tonality print but a D700 will also make a gorgeous print and quickly render a scene for use for Internet or iPhoto etc. For that matter the D90 DX camera is quite amazing. I do think BOTH DX and FX will continue for quite a few years and I am glad I have Nikon glass that will work on both. But sometimes camera size also can get the job done where a D3s or D3s would be just too much for me to risk in the field.

but then i don't think anybody who owns a D40 would own TC-20, 70-200mm 2.8 and so much as dream of putting them together, not to mention the 6400 ISO, D40 capable of that?

FX is so '80s. If you don’t care too much about quality buy a compact, my pet cat have a NIKON Coolpix P5000, she make decent pictures with it.
Now, if you spend Thousands dollars in lenses, it is better to invest in a large format digital back like the _____. The ____/____ will be a killer, it will be hard to get one during the first 6 months and certainly not at a discount price.

I still don’t get it.
Why Sony need 4 Cell Processor cores on the fucking handheld system. We are going to play Crysis 2 on the Go or what?

Whats the point of this? It’s like Sony wants to make a bad start with it or make five hundred and ninty nine US dollars with Giant Enemy Crab again?

A basic entry-level plastic body FX D600 can be expected before the upgrade of D700. Same sensor and processor from D700, no video, low budget option for photo-enthusiasts.

The upgrade direction may have 3 options:
1) one model solution, D800: new sensor, similar noise levels of D700 but around 18mp plus 1080p video
2) two model solution,
a) D700x: D700 body, same sensor from D3x, no video, restricted functions, mainly for studio & landscape phographers,
b) D700s: D700 body, same sensor from D3s, 1080p video, low noise at high ISO, restricted functions, for PJ's, wedding photographers, videographers, etc.
3) all of the 3 above, but in which order?

D40-sized FX is weird, because unless using a 50mm, most FX lenses, even the f/4 ones will be too bulky causing an unbalanced combination. Something between D700 & D90 will be the min. reasonable size for an FX body.

Even it will be an entry-level FX, they can't make it without AF motor. It will be a stupid move. It will likely be a body smaller and more lightweight than D700, but not like a D40.

Plus, if ever made, its name will be likely D600. D400 is the expected upgrade to D300, likely 16mp with full-HD video.
