The resolution is no meaningful if the problem in neon light still appear. All Nikon DSLRs (D5000, D90, D300s, D3s) have the same problem. Nikon support said it is because of large CMOS, but I cannot find any problem in Canon 500D and 5DM2.

Yo,Nikon Boys..wait for Nikon to Improve HD Video on their DSLRs.hopefully..they will get there.soon..LOL…crybabys. Canon will always be one step ahead..forget the MP`s.Video is what counts now..I Certainly do not want 12mp Jello Video on my DSLR..we want a Product(DSLR) that can take Photos and VIDEO. not a Video Camera!

That’s BS, professional cinematographers don’t use autofocus, it doesnt exist on real cameras. Instead, they have a focus puller.

I see Canon has a announcement coming up next week to a group of professional cinemaphotographers. It may very well be the “Red Killer” that has been rumored. Its about time for the FF technology to make its way to the under $30,000 video cameras. DSLR’s with video that don’t autofocus are a big compromise to those used to a camcorder, and are cheap, but also a big compromise to professional cinematographers. A real cinema camera with FF that is relatively affordable may change the game in the movie industry.

Nikon really are their own worst enemy, they put themselve in this viscous cycle of always playing catch up that they make it hard for themselves to increase market share.

The D3 & D3X are the best in their class and are judged better then Canon’s 1D series, however they were a long overdue catchup for Nikon, before that they were giving Canon free reign. Secondly, the top line models is not what everyone is buying, it’s all the other models that really need some work to make them appealing again.

Oh i haven’t forgotten about red – if not for the GFC – then by all accounts Epic and Scarlet would have been available now for many months and this whole Nikon Vs Canon for video would be irrelivent.

Well maybe not irrelevant – Not even Jim could offer something close to the 7D for that price point. Of course he would never WANT to either so…

Don’t forget RED, although slower than Nikon by far in releasing cameras, they are moving closer and closer to DSLR/Video Camera merge. Once they release a camera it will be the game changer for the industry. Think about FPS in the double digits, that will draw sport shooters like bears to honey! 10MP instead of 12, not going to be a concern.

I tend to agree, not only that but Nikon Shooters are often left wanting in these “Gap” periods between the Canon Release and the Nikon Response. Which is bad as it stops us from placing money down faster/sooner for equipment. Think about the money they could receive NOW for further R&D activities NOW if only they bring out something decent NOW. Instead Canon is the one with the advance timeline for R&D as they are in the lead in terms of technological specs during this Gap period.

The quality of Canon’s video is far superior than to Nikon’s. 1080p is just a resolution, nothing more.

The advantage though of Canon being fast to market is they can quickly snap up sales from early adopters, even if the product has flaws. When Nikon finally does release a superior product, due to their extremely slow release to market strategies, Canon has already grabbed the attention and it’s very hard for Nikon to win back any of those sales.

Never liked the canon nikon war, each of them is better than the other in different ways, so people with different needs can purchase different products.
About the 5D and 5Dii though… the AF does suck, what do you want me to say? the AF is great? well it’s not! even the 50D has better AF system than the 5Dii, and we are not even bringing in the D700 yet.
I’ll say this much: Give 5Dii the AF system of 7D, then Canon has got itself a very well rounded camera. Right now the AF on 5Dii is simply pathetic.

If Nikon thinks the only advantage Canon has in video is 1080P then they are truly finished in this field. Definitely not the end of the world but on the whole VERY disappointing. Photography wise I think the D3s is without equal but when their top of the line gives only 720p AND cant even offer that without serious problems (ie frame dropping) then you have to wonder WTF Nikon are smoking.

On the video front Canon will be adopting an advanced mpeg2 50mbps 4:2:2 codec for future pro video cameras – potentially leaving the door open to implamenting something similar in their DSLR line.

When it comes to video Nikon seem to indicate time and time again they simply havent got a clue.

Yes, among non-evil compacts, the LX3 is THE camera right now. That lens is great and the sensor size is the largest among fixed lens compacts. I may still get one for me, even though I’d like it to have G-series (Canon) controls and ergo.
