The point is Nikon is not the P&S camera to get for the walk around pics. Their stuff is way behind what Canon and now especially Panasonic are doing.

It took Nikon years to get rid of CCD and move to CMOS in DSLRs and now they are a leader in DSLRs. Nikon dropped the gauntlet by putting HD video on DSLRs. Nikon has no video camera line to sabotage like the others, so they were the first.

Funny all the negative comments about P&S cameras. I am here waiting for some info on the D700 replacement and when it might come out and what it will be. I don’t want a D3s as I prefer the body size of the D700.

That said, it is pretty obvious none of the group here wants a camera for when they are up running gates on Mt. Hood in July that can take spectacular pictures and movies. Hauling 20# of camera gear up and down the hill makes for some harsh gate running technique. Nope, give me an awesome little point and shoot I can slip in my pocket for that case. The Guy who has the D3s and the 400mm lens just goes up and stands in one place all weekend and takes pics of us having fun.

The L21 is nowhere to be found on the U.S. site either in the product listings or the press listings. If that camera is real, I don’t think it’s being released in the U.S. (or maybe it’s coming later.)

YES! this right here. All i hear is you people b*tching and moaning like little babies. I am sure Nikon has a good deal of new technology in store for the prosumer market, they are just waiting. God, you people see this post and you think its the end of the world, “well, thats it, they only released point and shoots, those damn people at nikons, why can’t they just read my thoughts?”. i laugh at all these comments being made. cry cry cry, b*tch b*tch b*tch, moan moan moan. Nikon will release the good stuff soon enough, and when they do, I’m sure you idiots that complain about the P&S will complain about how the new Nikon D_ or D____ doesnt have this and doesnt have that and blah blah blah. If you don’t like it, then you have a few choices:
a.) don’t visit this site, cause obviously it incites quite a deal of emotional problems for a good amount of people
b.) switch to canon
c.) stop caring.

why do you care about this race between nikon and canon? if someone you know shoots canon and you shoot nikon, are they automatically your enemy? you all need to grow up, stop checking this site all the time and go do some photography.

P100 is nice. The sensor came from Sony Exmor CMOS BIS. It missing the hotshoe, filters & raw files but the camera itself is a big step forward compared to P90. Full HD AVCHD it’s a good sign for future DSLRs ( I hope). Fuji HS-10 looks better from specs point of view, now we have to wait for real tests and prices.

Hi Alex,

I have had Panasonic Lumix TZ2 and TZ5 in the past. Now I have Fuji F200EXR but I still like my bro’s Sony DSC-H20 better than those three. It has pretty fast (in tele end) 10x Carl Zeiss lens (f3.5-4.4) and very powerful flash+HD movie recording, so when I am not carrying my D5000 with me I feel pretty comfortable to be able to get decent shots made with it.

Am I the only person here that uses DSLRs AND P&S cameras? So bring me a D900, and I will be happy. Give me a nice p&s camera that doesn’t take blurry pics, and I will be happy. My old Sony F717 5mp camera always took good pics, but I wanted something that would fit in my pocket, so I didn’t feel like carrying a camera would ever be a burden on trying to just enjoy the moment too. So I bought a Panasonic TZ5 (10mp). Well trying to get a shot that isn’t delayed or blurred is kind of hit-and-miss. I would like a decent pocket camera that takes decent pics like my old Sony F717. Maybe I have to wait for the EVIL system?

Hey camaman,

It all starts from lens and especially from the sensor. If the IQ is already lost due to tiny (1/2.3″) and lousy sensor there’s no software that can correct the situation. Especially in the tele end where small aperture pushes the ISO high there’s no much to be done.

Fuji’s EXR sensors have proved to be much better ISO performers (so far) than the back lit CMOS sensors. We’ll see if Nikon has been able to change the situation with P100.
