Nikon Coolpix S3000 and Coolpix S8000 will also be announced

In addition to the P100 and L110, Nikon will also announce Coolpix S3000 and Coolpix S8000 cameras. I am still expecting more details in the next few days.

I am sorry I keep bringing up compact cameras, but I think this is what the February 3rd announcement will be about. I now strongly believe that there will be another announcement in the week after February 3rd (or maybe the week before?) that will bring the good stuff. I do not think the February 3rd date will be for Coolpix cameras and DSLRs/lenses at the same time. Last year, Nikon first announced the D300s and D3000 (July 30th) and the week after (August 4th) four Coolpix cameras were released.

Here is the reason why we get the Coolpix first :
Niknon annouce the coolpix first, because when the DSLR will be announced the week after, there will be a special deal: buy one Nikon DSLR and get a Coolpix for free !
Thank you Nikon ! We still love you !

  • SBGrad

Well, Thom DID say 1st 2 weeks, but the waiting is driving me NUTS!

As long as we get a 80-400 replacement, I’ll be happy. VR II, yes; AF-S, a must; Nane would be nice but not required–and does Nikon even put Nano on a prosumer lens?

    • WoutK89

      60mm macro ;-)

      • David Segura

Dude, that just came out like a year ago, doubt they will change it this soon

        • WoutK89

Dude, do you know how to read questions?

“and does Nikon even put Nano on a prosumer lens?”

  • Ubiquitous

No question about it. Nikon is going after Panasonic.

    • Cash

exactly, But If I would have to choose, I buy Panasonic.

  • Chris P

I am beginning to wonder if we will see a replacement 80-400, as it will probably be at least £1,500 and pretty soon it will be possible to buy a 70-200 at £1,600 and a TC20III for under £400.

    • WoutK89

Yes, but you will lose still sharpness an 80-400 could bring. Plus, you will have 80mm in the short end and a wider aperture if needed ;-)

  • Lalala

    please, give me the P7000

  • http://www.chadwebbphotography.com rad

Why oh why can’t Nikon figure out how to name a bloody camera? These new model names makes no sense. I bet the new DSLRs are going to be just as screwed up. With the exception of the rebels (not applicable in europe) Canon does have that down.

    • http://www.d800.com The invisible man.

As long the next DSLR look like what I want (and need) I don’t care if they call it littlepinkpig or D799999 !

    • optimaforever

Not to mention that in Japan the Canon EOS 350/400/450/500D are named “Kiss X1/X2″.

“Oh my Dear, why don’t you put this 70-200 on your Kiss?”

      Lovely isn’t it? :D

      • optimaforever

        mmmmh

the next Nikon could be the “Pussy 700s”.
I don’t think this naming would be a success… LOL

        • D70

Honda already tried that with Honda Jazz in Sweden. It had to change name to Jazz after they discovered what the original name was in Sweden. (Jazz is called Fit in some parts of the world and was orginaly called something a little longer. )

        • Cash

I hope the pussy will come out. I’m kind of needy ;)

  • Poisonberry

I REALLY want a replacement for the P line of cameras. It would suck for me to have to break down (like all my friends) and buy a G11 to keep in my bag. Come on Nikon, forget the video as well and give me a compact camera with RAW and some pro features so Canon does not get my money.

  • low

NRadmin > dont be sorry man, youre doing a great job on the rumors and even on the nonrumor front! thanks!

    • WoutK89

Yes, we need to bite through the sour part (Coolpix) to get to the sweets :-)

  • Anonymous

Coolpix here Coolpix there… I want dslr news NOW. :D lol

  • Gordon

The big announcement for February will probably be a 18MP Coolpix :P

    • http://www.d800.com The invisible man.

No, it will be a 18MP FX Coolpix !

      • Dee Tee

        and $200 bucks… goodbye competition ;-)

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikezphoto Mike Z

    IT HAS BEGUN!

    • WoutK89

and ended at the same time :-P

How about new flash ? The 800 got upgrated to 900, what about 600 going to 700 ?

    • David Segura

Agreed, already have a SB-900 and an SB-400. I need another CLS flash and don’t want to get an SB-600 if a new one is just around the corner :(

  • Anonymous

any word on the s8000 specs? a good competitor to the g11 would be a nice announcement for me. i just don’t see how i can invest in a micro 4/3 camera and a whole new set of lenses but want better quality than your mini sensor point and shoot gives you

  • http://www.truphotos.com gnohz

Hmm is there a possibility that there won’t be any announcements after Feb 3rd? Everyone will cry lol :D

    • WoutK89

Unless the announcement is all in one

    • Cash

if they do not release new stuff, we all save money ;) I do not buy Shi t anymore, I want proper stuff.

  • dude

coolpix. give it to me for free also do not want.

  • Ray

i am actually interested in the coolpix line, since i feel my d700 has a long lifespan, like the canon g11/s90, nikon should really release a good compact camera. or i just have to be a sucker and buy the canons :P hahaha

another words, i would like to carry a compact for those times where i would like to be in the picture too and dont want to hand then my d700.

    • http://davidandstella.wordpress.com/ David

I am envious about your D700, and I am also interested in a compact. (Can’t afford to upgrade my D300). I wish for Nikon to come out with something that looks like P6000 or Panasonic LX3.

I would REALLY love to see Nikkor and ExSpeed on a cellphone.

      • http://www.d800.com The invisible man.

The D700 is the best DSLR I’ve seen, great results, but need more pixels, 18-24MP. (12MP is fine if you don’t go more than 8×10″)

  • http://davidandstella.wordpress.com/ David

I am keen on Panasonic LX3 or SE C905 cellphone, for street. But I will hold out and wait 3 months for Nikon. I love square crops & 16:9, and I love Nikon. But can’t afford to upgrade my DSLR.

  • n-ton

Thom Hogan did it again: now he also predicts the teleconverters:

    http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1021&message=34293560

this time only two days after the news broke here – he is getting faster :)

    • WoutK89

Lol :-D Are we establishing something here?

    • Markus

He did it again lol :) To base his predictions on the information of others. Whatever Thom says others said as well. I just want my D700X (his prediction) and he predicted it should not come this February in the first place…and now it are the first 2 weeks of February and no D700X! :)

      • Grumpy

        Ehhh, we’re still in January

        • Markus

Yes we are…Thom now predicts the first 2 weeks of February and not the coming spring as he previous mentioned.

          • http://cnn.com D900

He also switched to D900 after numerous reports on NikonRumors

          • litebyte

Thom’s crystal ball is a copier :-) A pity Jeff-C has nothing to mention as he did in the past
The 20 MP camera which is mentioned on Nikonians sounds realistic to me.

  • Anonymous

I hope there i some real “smoke” from these announcements, a new dslr will be a really nice addition…

  • Worminator

If it is a new dSLR or ILS camera and not just more of the same old Coolpix I’m impressed how well they’ve kept it under wraps.

  • DX2FX

Admin, Do you think you can get a leaked picture of D900 before 2nd February ?

  • glu

after the overwhelming success of the 85/3.5 micro, I expect they would pull out two other genius primes:

    the 60/3.5 micro
    the 35/3.5 micro
the 16/3.5 micro fisheye (this one I’d buy)

all DX, so they are affordable.

    just kidding.

    • WoutK89

No, they will come up with unusable (not wide, not long, and so on) lengths. 60mm and 35mm are quite usable, but you are right with the micro fisheye :-D

  • glu

    ^ wanted to say 3 primes… duh.

  • Darz

    any poetry fans here?

    “I want D900
    I want it so bad
    This waiting in darkness
    Is makin me mad”

  • mazun

Am I the only one who`s looking forward to new Coolpixes? Nikon still owes me a coolpix s10 successor!!!
