Ellis Vener? He is active on photo.net which means he is most likely an amateur who fancies himself a "professional." In other words, he wouldn't have a clue what Nikon has to offer down the road when you consider that there are maybe a handful of pros who have access to the latest Nikon gear for testing. I have seen this guys work also, it is typical amateur yawn inducing internet photography.

If you are on a limited budget and need a fast large zoom lens like the canon L 100-400m or the 28-300mm (which by the way seems much faster than the (100-400mm) it is crucial for choosing either Nikon or Canon that Nikon come up with something in the beginning of 2010.
People make these choices all the time, it would therefore in my opinion be better if the companies revealed their new products as fast as possible, so that people could make a wellinformed choice. I know that this would cut down selling of already excisting products, but since new products alwayes is more expensive, many will be interested in buying the old products at a sligthly lower price.

If you were going on a big assignment in Africa then surely you'd be taking your 200-400/f4, your 600/f4 and your 70-200/f2.8 VRII on a spare D3s body for close up stuff? No?

That Super telephoto zoommmmmmmmm sounds too good to be true. If that 100-500/f4-5.6 ED VR is really coming, i'm buying it. Put a D300s behind and fire away. A 500/f4 is too big and expensive and a 300/f4 need a 1.7x to get to 500mm which makes it slow. A 100-500mm is perfect for my needs.

I think that a DX camera with the über-high quality body of the D2 and D3 etc would be a good idea. At least, I'd be in the market for one (if it isn't ridiculously expensive).

I don't think we'll be seeing Canon introducing another 5D camera EVER. The big reason being is that this Canon 3D rumor seems to be quite real. A camera that would share the 1D Mark IV sensor while having less performance.

I am 100% confident that canon learned their lesson when the 5D Mark II crashed the 1Ds Mark III sales to practically nothing. I would honestly shocked if we ever see a non pro body featuring either Nikon or Canons top sensor again.

that's my thought too. 16-35mm would be a FX wide angle zoom...

I doubt they would grant my wish of a f/4 DX standard zoom but still hopeful for a DX lens non the less...

Well, time for me to sound like a broken record. I want to see what happens with the D700 part of the Nikon line. The new model (D700x/D800?) is what I would prefer if I can gain a dose of MP (16 or 18MP) and the price stays under $3,000 (US).

On a side note, I am a photo prof and I think Nikon (as well as the other brands) need a cost effective DSLR. At least under $400 with a lens on it. I had hope for Nikon to keep running with the D50 on this front. Student need a more cost effective option to get started into the serious digital.

Why? Variable aperture doesn't necessarily equal crap.

What's so desirable about f4 zooms?

Because Canon did it isn't good enough. I'm honestly not impressed with any of Canon's f4 glass, except for the 70-200. The 17-40 and 24-105 are over hyped and priced. Nikon doesn't need overpriced glass. They need good sharp glass that works. So far so good. Except for a full frame midrange zoom with VR at any price point. The 24-120 is crap.

Think of it, how many people really need 32MP? The pixel race, even though the latest developments by Canon, is not going to be the most important issue. The D3s, just released, with even better high ISO than the D3, has gotten wonderful press and overshadowed the 1D4 launch.

And Nikon is doing very well, prediction for current yerar is 3,550,000 dslr units sold, page 17 of:

http://www.nikon.com/about/ir/ir_library/result/pdf/2010/10second_all_e.pdf

Even the p&s sector is doing relatively well in a dismal economic situation.

Hi Admin: this 16MP FF sensor could well be in development for the D4. Nikon wouldn't go up in the pixel count and loose the high ISO edge it has had since the D3 was introduced, and the D3s seems to be even better in that respect.

And Michel lammerse, as posted above, has mentioned that the D800 may come with more than 18MP, so we'll have to wait until some more credible leaks come up.
