There's an easy workaround for that.
1.) Go to iTunes and into the iTunes Store.
2) At the bottom right corner of the screen, click on the Canadian (or your home country round flag icon.
3) When the list of round country flags comes up, select USA.
4) iTunes will want you to either enter in your login details or create a new account. You should create a new account and enter in a US address. It can be pretty much any address as long as address/zip codes match.
5) For payment method you should select none.
6) Now that you have a US iTunes account, you can now download all the FREE apps you want that are available in the US. Paid apps are a different story, however...you won't be able to do anything about those. Fortunately, the Nikon app is free.

That's it! Have fun.

Yeah, it's mostly articles from their web site and pics. Some videos here and there. General stuff is what I've seen so far. It's like Nikon Magazine on ipod/iphone.

I agree - if they update this app on a regular bases it will be great - it also includes articles from Nikon World, which is a paid magazine.

I just downloaded and played with the app - it really is very cool with a ton of info in it. a few advanced articles in there too, and many articles have picture examples or discussions on how/why that picture was taken. Not sure if it is very different to what is on the NIkon site, but great to flick through when you have a few minutes of idle time.

I'm not a nikon user (but I appreciate the line and lenses) is this still applicable? It's a general photography app correct? Not specific to their cameras?

Can't wait to get home to download and try out. Although it will only be successful if they do keep up with the content.
