While waiting:
The first review of the new Nikon 70-200mm f2.8G ED VRII is up - check it out at Cliff Mautner's blog. It seems that Mr. Mautner is one of four photographers that have the lens right now and are working on an campaign for Nikon.
I pre-ordered mine from J&R and they should get them in stock on November 28th. This seems to be the date also for NPS members "priority" pre-orders (source). Amazon Japan also says that the lens will be available on November 30th.

Nice way to defelct the crappy announcement coming up
Apparently Amazon Japan now says that it’ll be available on Nov 27 – if you click on the link.
they must have changed in the last 30 min
That’s some ridiculous VR action. 1/13th and sharp at 200mm!!!!
I can not wait till Nikon comes out with new cameras tonight ! I hope the P&S are going to be involved ..
Wow, looks great. Hope I can get one quickly!
Can’t wait to shoot brick walls with this baby!!
This is a review from a fanboy who raves about nothing touches his old lens and claims the new lens is a big improvement. Lets be honest of it is that good then no one will need to use prime lens is it? Get real…..
I shoot Canon with the EF 70-200 f2.8L IS. My observation based on the photos are the vigniting is improved, better than Canon. The stabalising much depend on the user but I can shoot 1/13th pretty still with my Canon. Sharpness wide open is rather dissapointing and not near as sharp as Canon. The EF 70-200 f2.8L IS is known to be soft wide open compared to other Canon lens in this zoom range so I do find it quite surprising Nikon has not bettered this with its new lens.
I am not saying I am a super hero by any means but the “shaky” 1/13 VR shot looks a little exaggerated…. I can get significantly better results than that.
My nikon rep told me mine will 2nd week of November
Bloody Hell….Sharp Sharp..
Does it have TRIPOD SENSING VR?
No idea about the tripod sensing VR bit, but i tried it at the Nikon Roadshow in Malaysia. Darned sharp, and the VR works as advertised. Had a TC-20 mounted on for the sake of it and it was usable handheld @ 400mm, 1/60
