According to a very reliable source, this year there will be no Nikon D700s or Nikon D700x.
What Nikon plans to do is to launch totally new D800 to replace the existing D700.
There are several features available in Nikon D800:

1) Video mode 1080p video recording (full HD)
2) High resolution 24.5 MP.
3) High frame rate: 7 fps without battery grip (similar to D300s)
4) 51-area Nikon Multi-CAM 3500FX (same technology as D3X)

Basically Nikon D800 will compete head to head against Canon's EOS 5D MkII.
Most likely Nikon will launch the brand new D800 before Christmas end of this year.

I'm just wishing for a 300mm f4.0 AF-S now with VR. it seems many of the high profile stores are OOS on the current version.

Yes, I agree. I do have the GP-1 and it is working fine I persume the Dawntec is the same but less expensive. I am not complaining, just the future must be - build it into the Camera Nikon. I know Canon thing is unusable. But I am sure (I already heard the rumor) that there will be a new version of Canon 7D with build in GPS. So Canon will be on top again and Nikon is loosing mrket share. So the direction is clear but why dond they just do it? Same applies to WIFI

Hi Admin, I don't know if this helps, but from a quick look at the error page you posted. It seems that they updated their databases' product information but didn't fill out all fields properly (according to the error: "product name" was missing).

It's likely that a new product was inserted into the database, but either inserted incorrectly, or maybe dropped the product name in the mistaken belief that the software would just not show it to the public.

Nobody has mentioned this that I've seen, but I'd be surprised if the new d3 version didn't come with the buffer upgrade out of the box.

You have some interesting issues with WiFi and IPTC. GPS built in would be very cool too. If you're really intersted in GPS I'd point you to the Dawntech Pro Logger. Have you tried doing GPS with Canon? It's the biggest PITA you can imagine. In this aspect Nikon with it's 10 Pin Connector is like heaven!

Since they have the two patents 85/1.4 & DX85/3.5S what keeps them from releasing a mix of the two, the AF-S 85mm/1.4? FX or DX? "To be, or not to be: that is the question"

IMHO, Nikon has always been far more conservative than Canon. As has been said here, the D700 wipes the floow with the 5DII at high iso's. This was proven a few weeks ago when taking non flash pictures in a church crypt. The higher resolution made for nowt in the final result.
I've owned a Nikon since I bought a Nikkormat FT3 in the late 70's. Before that I had a Canon AE1 which crapped out on me in the Artic with a sticking shutter one month after I bought it. Canon refused to fix it under warranty.
I blew the shutter on my F801 which ws fixed no question under warranty.
Yes, this has clouded my view.
I own three Digital bodies. D2X, D200 & D700. I've see a distinct improvement in the quality of the images produced by each of them. All I want is that this continues. As with compters, Ghz isn't everything (I write Operating System Software for a living). Megapixels is the same. All I ask is for is the quality of the end result.
Go off to Canon by all means. There are Canon people selling their kit and moving to Nikon.
It is human nature to whinge & complain so by all means carry on but please us Nikon fans alone. Most of are happy with what we use.

Funny that you should mention processors, seeing as how long it's been since I've seen a 4 GHz processor ... Not since the P4's, I think ... Maybe non-Bayer sensors will be the same for camera sensors as multiple cores were for processors.
