well sadly for you, the market doesn't work that way. If the crop sensor that you wanted maxes out at ISO800 and ISO1600 and ISO3200 become boosted, then you will see many people will start laughing/criticizing/ignoring Nikon.

Increasing the pixels per inch will increase noise whatever the frame size. That is why you lose an ISO stop each time you double the number of megapixels.

In fact that is what I was writing, As I said, a 50MP camera would be limited to ISO 800 and be pretty much a studio and very bright light camera.

All Nikon cameras achieve a specific noise performance critera at maximum ISO. So the noise on a D3 at max ISO is essentially the same as a D90 or a D50 or a D300 at their max ISO - give or take the fact that only whole stops are used.

You can always fix noise in software - at the cost of some resolution, but only if you actually need to.

No, american "i" isn't a long "i", but a whole different letter. Long "i" sounds the same as knee-kon, but japanese pronounce it as a short "i", and that's more like "i" in "english". The same way Nikon would be pronounced in any other germanic language.

Says the Japanese people (where Nikon was created). There is no long "I" sound in the Japanese language. Using a long I is primarily an American thing.

Just think of Nissan, you don't pronounce it Nigh-san.

haha, did you forget that increasing the megapixel on an APS-C sensor will just mean noise noise and terrible noise at higher ISO?

Also, this will bring us to the situation on why PnS image usually suck, too much mp on such a small sensor.

Canon was very lucky that they managed to walk on that fine line when creating their 5D Mark II with that amount of megapixel, look what happened to their 50D? They tried to increase the MP and they screwed up BADLY.

No, we need a 24MP DX. It is the ideal platform for wildlife photography and for macro work. The D300 manages 3200 ISO, it should be possible to achieve 24MP at 1600 ISO.

I get rather tired of the folk who think that because they spent $2500 on a camera that Nikon should not dare to better it in the DX format. There are advantages to both formats in different applications.

If there is a use for a 24MP FX body there will be a use for a 24MP DX body. We can't have a 50MP FX sensor until after the 24MP DX. Getting to 50MP is critical because that is the threshold point for fashion magazine photography. OK so a 50MP F-mount camera is probably going to have 800 ISO and be limited to the studio and bright sunny days. Well guess what? Those are the conditions in which 95% of 'blad photographers work 95% of the time anyway.

The limiting factor at the moment is almost certainly the processor speed. More pixels requires more speed. But that will come. There are processors on the market today that can handle the throughput, just not in low power configurations you need for a usable camera.

Any more rumors about the release of the D700x or D700s?

Depending on what Nikon does, they could come up with a model to compete against the 5DmkII...which seems to be killing it in sales, largely due to the video feature.

The CMOS R sensors are 10.2mpx in their p&s, which is pretty attractive given their low light abilities.....I could see the dual last CMOS R technology finding it's way into the D400, help with reducing the noise from a newer, larger dx sesnor

The more important aspect of the S70 than the touch screen UI is the fact that it's an OLED. OLED is one of the upcoming display technologies. Sony has one TV, the XEL-1, that uses an OLED. It's only an 11" screen and costs $2500.

I don't think that Nikon P&S users will appreciate the OLED screen, but I bet we'll also see that technology in the next gen of Nikon's higher-end DSLRs. I'm surprised it didn't appear there first.

And everyone likes to put Apple down, but everyone copies everything they do.

Erm there is the D3x which has higher MP then 5D Mark II and it has as good or better noise levels. Now what we need is a cheaper version of a D3x and perhaps a reduced price of D3x. I don't want Nikon APS-C DSLR to increase its MP, 12 is enough.

Nikon needs to pick up their megapixels to contest the Canon Mark II D5 which has quite a few photo pros looking very close at that camera and the price with a couple of lens. Although at some point the megapixels don't tell the whole story. Nikon is famous for having WAY BETTER low light sensitivity than Canon already! Different chips have different qualities.......only rigorous testing in a camera mule (prototype) which just allow testing various CMOS chips. Right now Nikon low sensitivity is excellent. This Sony promotional does not address what resolution it is capable of. We assume it might be great?
