Which is a txt file you can print and shine the projector onto. It then gets grabbed in and installed. Pretty clever trick actually.

That 1st video is terrible false advertising.
The guy holding the camera laughs + moves, yet the projected picture doesn’t!

I will admit that even though the projector is a novelty gimmick, I agree with Jay…I can see how many people could have some fun with this feature.

This may even have some limited business use, where someone may want a cheap pocket projector to use in some limited manner of presentations.

I’d still rather have a D700x release, but again, I do think the projector cam will sell. The projector cam has one big virtue: it’s easy for people to understand, and the concept seems kinda cool.

Can’t wait for ttlP: Through the lens projection. Think of what you can project with a 10.5mm fish eye. It’lll be like Imax or something. Will definitely come in the D400*10^12

This product probably isn’t meant to generate profit for Nikon, but rather, a push in marketing and in technology. Nikon recently is dipping their feet in new territories here, first with video in D90, now with projection tech, which looks pretty good to me. With this product, they have a second “world’s first” title, albeit not that impressive. Good for marketing and brand recognition.

Speaking of image quality, I think the image quality of th e projected image is actually quite good, comparable to dedicated pico-projectors. Maybe that’s what Nikon will do next, pico-projectors

Still no “ground breaking news”…

The video recording feature in DSLR as it may appear “stupid” is far more sensible… but having a video projector in a small pocket camera… the very weak power will demand a really dark environment and suitable surface to project the pictures on to make this feature useful, and we will find it everywhere huh?

Just imagine, all sitting comfortable in the sofa and one of the guys pulls up his “ground breaking” coolpix and want to show some pictures… well suppose the living room unfortunately don’t have any suitable wall with the very light colour, what do you do???? ehh, sorry guys I have a white coloured wall in my toilet, lets get there… err………………..

If you do have suitable walls in your living room to project your pictures on, is it in a suitable position in front of the sofa??? maybe… ok, how big is the projected picture then… because I don’t have my sofa like 1-2 meters from the front wall meaning we need a big picture because something like 15″ diagonal picture isn’t much to look at, think of looking at a medium size laptop from 3 meters distance… and big picture means a lot of power and can a pocket camera really provide that?

This all boils down to we have to rig up the environment to have any use of the camera projector feature and that is not going to happens just anywhere, with other words a really handicapped and cumbersome feature, this make the video recording feature in DSLR’s much more intelligent and sensible by far!

sorry couldn’t hold back from ranting but the words “groundbreaking”… was after all very ridiculous marketing hype, maybe I expected something on a much higher level when such words were shouted out.

Actually, the pix was taken by a bear, through a new, undisclosed feature that allows the camera to communicates with bears, but only bears. Deer and rabbit communication technology coming in 12-18 months, rendering this PS camera obsolete at that point.

It’s a good idea, although the only thing close to a pns I will get will be the sigma or ep1.

I personally lived without a projector for 20 yearsi won’t suddenly want onebut I can see how this Is a useful tool especially to show grandma some pictures on the go or vacation time for family review of pictures.

There is a market for this just like the stupid video mode on dslrs.. Remember those? “omg why would they put video on a dslr!” and now it’s we want more… Let’s just accept some innovations.

Agreed, the only place to use the projector is against a wall which you’d likely have a TV on and there are many ways to hook up a camera to a TV, etc.

Showing it on a smaller surface is silly as you will get better picture viewing it off the LCD in the back.
