Nikon D3000/D5000 image comparison

I am not sure why the Nikon D3000 lenstip page was removed – here is the Nikon D3000/D5000 comparison image for the readers that missed it yesterday:

Why do people select “dislike/do not post again”? I could see if they do that for a totally useless post, but most of the ones I see are actually for helpful posts. What kind of post would please these people? Geez.

Looks like they finally are going to release a worthwhile upgrade to the D40. If this is a Gen2 camera, then its going to be a winner.

          “Poop, Fart, Wuss.

          Camera backpacks are for sissies.

          Digital is for dummies.

          Leica is for real men.

I worked in TV for 10 years while working in Hollywood for 15 years while being a circuit engineer at tektronix for 23 years and I helped make the first digital camera while being an inventor for 50 years while shooting 90 rolls of film a day for 62 years.

          D40!!!! ”

I wish my job was that easy. At least I’m doing something remotely useful.

Admin, did you try to contact them to ask why they took it of?

  7. Posted June 30, 2009 at 2:21 pm | Permalink

Look’s like it’s smaller, so hopefully also thinner – more d40/d60 size.

why would they take it down unless they had to? I’m sure it was bringing them a lot of welcomed attention. i bet you Nikon told em to.

Cant wait to buy this camera. My only predicament now is buy when it comes out, or wait for the holiday season to get a good deal? I got my d60 last year in dec. for only 480 off amazon. Then again, maybe it all depends on what the asking price is. has the d5k dropped in price since it came out?

I wonder if Nikon will do rebates again… NR Admin, I’d appreciate your input.

Up here in Soviet Canuckistan the D5000 kit with 18-55mm VR lens seems to be about $100 or so cheaper than when it was released.

Please, please, can it have a 6MP sensor and the EXPEED processor. It would then have awesome low light capability.

      Posted June 30, 2009 at 7:25 pm | Permalink

I want a 1 pixel sensor. Having just one pixel, Moire effects would be eliminated, so the images would be super-sharp as an anti-alias filter would not be required. Furthermore, the one pixel would not require a colour or IR filter, so the sensor would be able to record at ISO 51,200 without significant noise. This sensor could be fitted in the much desired b&w only digital FM3. What do you think? Any other potential customers for a camera with such a sensor?

He is right, because I forgot to say that this new sensor should have at least 12 bit raw files. If they were only 8 bit, you would quickly exhaust the 256 unique images that could be produced. And that would be rubbish.

    • Posted June 30, 2009 at 8:41 pm | Permalink

C’mon Ken we *know* it’s you.

The Zorro “masked man” pseudonym is a dead give away. . .

Please don’t anyone take this *too* seriously. Just having a bit of fun!

    • Posted June 30, 2009 at 8:53 pm | Permalink

BTW Ken are you sure that your darkroom is properly ventilated?

      Just asking. . . :-)

“If things keep growing like this, and camera makers miss the mark for new models, demand for film gear is going to be so strong in a few years that Pentax K1000s will be selling for about $650 ~ $725, Canon AE-1s will go for about $950 ~ $1,100, and the AE-1 program, which goes for about $50 today (up from $35 last month) will fetch $1,450 ~ $1,575.”

No joke. This is from a very recent post on Ken Rockwell’s site. . .

Honestly – anyone heard anything about the specs for the D3000?

    Posted July 2, 2009 at 5:03 am | Permalink

I think that this is genuine. If you look at the mode dials, there are things in a different order and the auto-no-flash is seemingly missing on the D3000. If it were faked I would imagine they wouldn’t have gone to the trouble on the dial.

  16. Posted July 3, 2009 at 12:21 am | Permalink

I’ll have to say that this looks significantly more sensible than the D5000.
