I belong to a camera club with a gentleman by the name of David Busch. Dave has written numerous releases on digital equipment and cameras. Google his name it's quite impressive what he has written. Dave's take on the 400 is that if it's out there, it's a good seceret. Most, if not all technical writers are second and third partiy writers to manufactures of cameras. Good writers want to give equipment a fair shake along with an honest opinion, that validates their knowledge. If someone was contracted by a specific manufacturer to write a book on a new camera, it sure could be one sided, couldn't it?

Geez, Admin, why are you posting all of these rumors on this rumor site? All these rumors will ruin this rumor site. I say no more rumors! You should post about more important topics like Star Trek and Star Wars and whether Greedo shot first.

just in case no one noticed... since beginning of this year, nikon didn't release anything expensive that is more than $500 US dollars. most likely "D400" isn't coming because nikon is going down the cheap path to attract more customers to buy their things awfully cheap so they can save up in all financial loss that they lost while this economic crisis.

D400? my ass. you need to ask yourself WHY do you want the D400? because you want the greatest, latest, and newest? heck, a 5 years old D200 does a fine job.

So? I agree with the poster. I don't care about the technically correct definition of 'rumor' or the correct spelling of 'rumour' - Americans eh!?!

There have been oodles written on here on the basis of nothing. Whether true or not, whether , technically a rumour or not, there is way too much being written and posted about one tiny very weak piece of info picked up, most likely from googling "Nikon D400".

Get over it already!

per the American Heritage Dictionary:

RUMOR: "A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth."

Asking for something "substantial" defeats the purpose. Let the madness continue!

Why all these "please no more crazy rumors comments"? I agree this book rumor means nothing, but I don't expect NikonRumors to hold high standards of only posting plausible rumors. I come here when I want to see it all and I'll make the judgement myself as to its plausibility.

I've knocked NR in the past a time or two on DPreview when someone posted a link here citing it as "proof", but I've come around now and enjoy having a one site repository for what it is, "rumors". Thanks for you work NR Admin.

I seriously hope this is the "Last post on the Nikon D400 book. I have already explained to you all why this is showing as a forthcoming book but still you are all convinced that this camera is very close to birthing.

The alleged conversation - “So, I called him yesterday evening as I promised above. We had a nice talk. When I mentioned the D400 after some time, he laughed. He has a NDA with Nikon, that was clear to me, but his work on the book is real so we may see a D400 in summer.” - doesn't suggest to me anything other than the 'author' was probably slightly bemused at the call.

"He has a NDA with Nikon, that was clear to me, but his work on the book is real so we may see a D400 in summer"

WHAT? Why was it clear to you? Please don't say because "he laughed" - he may have laughed because he thought had a crackpot on the other end of the phone. (no offence intended admin, but this 'tall story' - not even a rumour worthy of your site is getting out of hand).

How do you know his work on the book is real? If he is under an NDA he wouldn't be allowed to tell you about the book or that it was under way or even about to be started or that he had even sat at his computer to type the first word.

Admin, you will prob delete this for "offending" the poster or you but I really think that a) people are too sensitive on this site and b) this story/rumour is just snowballing out of control and - like a snowball - there is nothing of substance when you scratch the surface - just more snow!

Of course a D400 is coming - like night follows day, but I doubt that anyone outside of a few trusted Nikon testers knows anything and I doubt even more that this author - even if he IS signed up to write the book knows anything more than anyone on here - infact admin, you probably know as much as this author and he will certainly NOT have had his hands on even a pre-production model yet.

Please can we leave this D400 topic alone until there is something other than this D400 book rumor... as soon as there is something else substantial, I will not think of asking people to stop talking about it but until then... PLEASE! The Truck Camera was really interesting, this is not!

All comments I leave are coming from a wishful thinking standpoint,
but... if/when the d400 comes with video it'll apparently have some more minor tweakings to improve upon the d90 video platform. due to physical senor size dynamics, I'm not sure if they're willing to opt for a 1080p from APS-c format (as opposed to canon 5dmkII's FX spec sensor). [sure, little point-and-shooters from panasonic or whatever have so called 1080 video modes but ...i tend not to really count those] From a developmental stand point, greater improvement could be made in areas of firmware/software that would improve upon previous refreshrate/interlacing issue "blurry jello vision" effect (as well as adding more control over some aspects of shooting beyond auto mode). - Canon's supposedly on to that with 5dMkii... as rumors go... Yet anyways, Like most people on this forum, I rarely expect any major hardware upgrades to add upon this generation ( ie. expeed 2 exspeed extreme 1.2 etcetc) I'd much hope for something plausible such as a more fine tuned output and refined workflow... even if it means staying at 720p- because after all.. this is 2nd gen and it should have worked out those developmental kinks realized after the 1st gen release or could not be achieved in time... (or as some say, marketing gimmick of holding back).
just my 'personal' 2 cents

but... if/when the d400 comes with video it'll apparently have some more minor tweakings to improve upon the d90 video platform. due to physical senor size dynamics, I'm not sure if they're willing to opt for a 1080p from APS-c format (as opposed to canon 5dmkII's FX spec sensor).

I have a question for everyone. I'm a big nikon person and have a couple MF lenses. I'm also in cinematography, and would like to try and find a way to use my nikon lenses, but i dont like the 35mm adapters for video cameras like the redrock. I'm trying out the d90, and like it, but do you guys think I should return it and wait for the d400 incase it has 1080P recording? Or should I just use the d90 and stick with it.

thanks everyone!

Wahlroos,

Mr. Gradias has written books about the D300, D90, D700 ... so, he don't start with a white paper. Afaik this books are quite similar.

Do you really think, that the D400 book will be that different? I guess, that the D400 will be a "better" D300, like the D90 is a better D80.
