Just for clarification:

A 35mm FX lens gives me 52mm of focal length on a DX camera, due to 1.5x crop value. 70mm gives me 105mm and so on…

Now why are they saying that this lens gives me 35mm on a DX camera and 52mm on a FX DSLR? I’m confused…

It doesn’t work if I write the link, somehow WordPress block it, block my post, maybe as spam.

It already happened to me in another site.

Testing, here in my “Website” is the link to the blog

The link to my blog was written by you in a post after I tried 2 times but the software didn’t show it, and then I wrote:
visualtech-studio dot blogspot dot com

I don’t see any options in gravatar to add a website link … There are only few, to add an image, to add e-mail, log out, none to add a link ..

Yes, hopefully this will be better than the 35mm f/2 AF-D which has cut-down-to-price optics. Look at the MTF50 results on photozone.de

Optically this new DX looks better, and more like the superior AIS 35mm f/2.

ok so DX is for the cheap masses according to nikon, which implies FX is for pros and enthusiasts. Then why didn’t they include ASPH elements on the new 50mm? After all, it was never meant to be “affordable” given this lens is now out for the DX pockets. I’d gladly pay a bit more for a better product.

Wait I’m confused. As a noob, why don’t I want this on my D300? I use my 50/1.8 as a portrait lens. For $200, why don’t I want a 35/1.8 for snap-shots and inside shots?

The optical design is very simple (as far as a modern lens goes) which leads me to believe the MTF is accurate. Moreover, Nikon is among the most accurate companies as far as MTF charts go. This looks perfect for what it is. I fail to understand how this is anything but useful.

The only people I can image hating this are people who hate the 18-55 VRII because it’s not a pro lens, despite the fact that it’s the best bang for the buck out there. I see a hole in my lens collection that’s exactly the shape of this 35/1.8 and since it’s DX, which my camera is, and will be for years to come, I see no problem with it.

Who will buy 450$ Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC/HSM now?
Or 400$ Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM?
Or anything else at current Sigma lower quality at higher price level?

Er… It is 8 elements in 6 groups on the 35/1.8. But I was comparing it to the 35/2 AI lens which is the same (except for the rounded blades).

Then mentioned the 35/2 AF-D lens in passing that it has less elements.
